And that's that.

I need to lose about 50lbs - or rather would really like to lose that.

At the current moment, exercise is well out of the question, and has been for a long time. I'm hoping eventually it will be an option.

I watch my portions. Still, nothing. I have normal thyroid function. Blood tests normal.

My killer I think is that I DON'T eat labeled foods. I don't own a food scale, and well, trying to figure out the calorie/fat/protien/carb/nutrition content to follow ANYTHING is about impossible when we eat venison, caught fish of random species, wild turkey, homegrown chickens, home grown frozen and canned veg, and stuff like that. Then, add the fact I make most meals from complete scratch - spaghetti might involve homemade noodles, sauce made from a jar of home canned tomatoes, onions and pepper, some wild morels, and a pound or so of venison. Usually make the bread too, with butter and garlic.

So I look at suggested diet plans. Where the heck are they getting this stuff and what in the name of all good are they paying for it? I won't buy tomatoes out of season (taste YUCK), and some of the things they suggest I've never even seen. I know my store doesn't carry jicama.

Doc says "hidden fat and sugar sources" are my downfall. She suggested weight watchers. My mom is a long time member, and she will take me to a meeting, but then suggested sparkpeople. I've tried sparkpeople, but I get so frustrated trying to track what I eat when it's not even in there, that I quit after a week.

I'm so freaking frustrated. If I could just walk, I would walk our road, it's safe and quiet. That is out of the question for a at least a few more weeks or months.

Ranting, but I'm just so unhappy about trying to figure this out

What worked for me was finding things to do I enjoyed and kept me busy, I never had time to over eat and barely time to eat. I lost weight like crazy, felt better about myself. Worrying or being frustrated with ones self I firmly believe retains weight. Just my own example here.

Sounds like you have a decent foundation.

Hidden fats and sugar can be part of the problem. What type of fats do you consume? Eating healthy fats and bad fats make a big difference.

The best way to loose weight is excerise and diet. Can you at least lift some light weights or light excerise just to get your heart rate up.

I would love to be busy if my body would let me. Just had my 6th knee surgery (open reconstruction) this past Monday, so I'm to be partial weight bearing, limited activity. Off work until next week (the soonest I could talk the doc into letting me go back, he won't budge for under two weeks). Keeping busy right now means sitting on my heinie, which I think is growing by the minute. I stopped the pain meds Friday, so I'm at least alert, but I'm pretty stumped on how to *do* anything, especially since, well, standing for more than a few minutes is pretty owie, let alone walking (or gimping along).

I've been pretty much laid up on and off since last April (flipped my knee backward about 6"+). Surgery in July, twice in Sept, and then Valentines Day. We HOPE this is the last one for this knee, but will only know over time

All this before I've even turned 30

you don't say if you eat 3 meals a day, I found out (with me) if i don't my body go's into starvation mode and no matter what i do no weight loss, but if i eat 3 balanced meals, reg. servings, not processed food I loss weight, its the processed stuff that's bad.
Plus I have a wii balance board, wow does that work, its a slow build up. love it. dropped 15-20 lbs, without a special diet

I'm more of a grazer which doens't seem to help - I don't eat large meals, but eat spaced through the day, usually every 2 hours or so.

I have a Wii and Wii Fit - I was doing well with Wii Fit and the EA Sports Active, but functioning legs seem to be important for those

Fats generally are in the form of olive oil and whatever animal fats come from venison and fish. I eat cheese, but don't drink milk. I like nuts when they are around. Don't care for margarine. Don't care for processed food at all.

There is a good diet program called calorieking.com. It is not as hard as you think to count calories, it just takes time and research. Once you get a start, it gets easier and faster. Google is your friend. google "calories in xxxxxx" you can find almost anything. Invest ten or fifteen bucks in a little scale from walmart and invest in calorie king. You can try it out for a week free of charge. and you can use it for looking up calories without ever joining, but the program is really important, and really worth it. It takes an enormous amount of exercise to burn enough calories to loose. weight. I like this program because it takes you through step by step. It calculates how many calories you should have. Then, if you run that day and burn 200 calories, you get to ear 200 more, because you don't want to loose too fast. Another neat thing is you can add your own foods, so meals or dishes you prepare from scratch, you only have to calculate once, and save them, then just select them to add to your diary and how much. I hate exercise and just can't seem to make myself do more than my daily chores and work, but I am loosing weight. But you must be completely honest and count every calorie. cough drops, a handful of peanuts, etc.
