OOh that ticks me off! YOU PAID THE SHIPPING! What kind of creep gets a shipping refund ,that SOMEONE ELSE PAID, and KEEPS it for themselves!? Wow! WHat a thief! I'd report it to someone, somewhere! That kind of dishonest stuff really gets me upset! What the heck is wrong with people today?

Mrs, Turbo, i agree with your suggestion on what you should state on your site about refunds. live, healthy birds = good shipping, regardless of days/hours it took.

just the post offices lately have staff that aren't trained on what to do when they receive live animals or eggs through the mail. many are either short staffed or closing branches in rural locations and don't understand the urgency and stress on the birds. i thought that the post offices today were supposed to allow for you to open your bird packages in front of them so they are sure you do not have dead animals. i have a co-worker whose DH works as a post master and he usually opens the boxes of live chicks to check them while the new owners come running in. (usually holds the box to the phone for them to hear the peeps!) this way he can get the proper forms ready to send back to the shipper for any 'damaged goods' requiring replacement.

as for the 'buyer pays the shipping' question i've been seeing. you as the buyer may be the one paying for the shipping but it is the seller who physically goes to the PO to deliver and PAY the PO to ship it to you (all costs you paid directly to the seller first). ever notice on ebay how much some people charge for shipping and when you receive it, it may be lower costs than what they stated they charged you for it? (this is usually a way to get around the seller's fees to the bidding site and a way to make more money from the sale.) i've seen it way to many times on shipped eggs starting out at 99 cent bids.

And that is such BS! ITs fraud! thats what it is! WTH!? I'd slam that sellers name all over the place! He kept money that was rightfully yours!

I know, but I believe Karma will get him!! But luckily both birds survived or I would be really POed and after him. I have other more important things to worry about now..unfortunately! Besides saying bad about them isn't going to do any good they have good FB other than mine so what is one going to do.

redhen....I understand what you are saying.....

I was wondering what other people though about this.....

We currently guarantee live shipment....and technically the buyer does pay shipping

My question is......

would you like to be guaranteed live shipment and give up you right to request a refund on late shipping (late shipping does not happen often)
(if your birds die in transit they will be replaced or issued a full refund)

or get your money back on shipping if your birds arrive late
(if you birds arrive dead it is on you...)

I notice that some small backyard breeders do not replace birds or issue refunds.....Can't have your cake and eat it too.
Most people buy birds and have them shipped because there are not any available within driving distance......the seller doesn't have to offer shipping....I can sell all my birds at a poultry show or local. I want to be upfront with my intentions on my website.

It wouldn't be an issue if everyone at the post office that handles the birds cared if they live or die......healthy birds should not die when shipped express mail. they are tossed here and there and left in the sun. I even had a box of birds sent on the other side of the US because they were put on the wrong plane.....why should I be out birds/money if it was the post offices fault? I have even tracked down birds that were "forgotten" at the post office and shipped out a day late.

shipping and receiving birds is a 2 way street.....the seller sells the birds and the buyer gets birds that are not available in their area.

I spoke with a guy once who was selling pairs of silkies. His birds looked healthy, but I only wanted a female for brooding.

Since he wouldn't sell me only the hen, I started to walk away. He said, WAIT, I have one single silkie hen.

He showed me a frizzle. I said "That's not a silkie, it's a frizzle." He was genuinely surprised that I could tell the difference.

Give me a break.

Hi! It shouldn't be an either/or situation.

Just like it should be a no brainer --- my birds went infertile, so I replace/refund everyone that got eggs during that timeframe. Period. My fault. I fix the problem by refunding monies or agreeing to ship eggs for no charge when the fertility issue is solved.
