I hate getting old

With all the ways that you can get hurt with a horse, and you hurt yourself stepping in a hole.

Hope you're feeling better!

My thoughts also - couldn't even blame it on the horse.

Yeah, there is a reason why I was doing groundwork on that horse. But, hey, I'm walking better today!

Sorry to hear about your ankle, it looks pretty nasty. Hoping for a quick recovery for you. But I have to one up you sorry. Saturday morning was a routine morning, up early tending to the flock and watering the garden, making and having coffee all by 7am. Planning out what chores I could get done before work and then starting having severe abdominal pain, I have had before and quickly subsided but this just wouldn't go away. After 7 hours of pain off to the doctor, then the ER and then emergency surgery for an abdominal muscle tear and a herniated intestine. Got a 5" slice right beside my belly button. Now I will be out of work for a month, no heavy lifting over 10 pounds. Great.

You are right oldchick, getting old really bites it.

Being a true chicken-holic as soon as I was coherent(or so I thought) after surgery my first question was did someone(drumroll please) of the chickens.

Evidently it's not an 'old' thing. Went to see my grandson play baseball tonight, and my grand daughter was there sporting an ankle just like yours. She did hers playing soccer - she's 19.

Hope you are still mobile and not in too much pain.

Yep, I'm healing. I probably injured my ankles several times while playing soccer as a youngster. Most likely the reason why they are a pain in the patooty as I get older.

I just got back to work from an estranglated (sp?) hernia. second time I've been in the hospital for the son of a gun.

What's that song Rainy Days and Mondays - "talking to myself and feeling old," that's me every day. Either it's the brain drain, or acid reflux, or too many things to mention. Since yesterday it's the left knee again. Has to lead going down stairs but, follow the right going up - or I get some dandy shooting pains. Sometimes it gets worse and won't bend - kinda hard doing stairs straight legged. But we learn and we compensate don't we?

Yes, the smart old people learn. On the other hand I'm hard-headed.

Grow old with grace and dignity I was always told. Hard to be dignified when you have spilled your shopping all over the supermarket floor because you didn't have hold of both handles of the bag. Hard to achieve grace when very well-meaning people try to 'help' you with things you don't need and just fluster you. Keep smiling your gratitude because their intentions are charitable. What gets to me is that when you reach a certain age, society seems to feel the need to shepherd you as one would a child. 'Don't step back dear, there's a supermarket trolley behind you.' (Yes I know)
'Did you drop this dear?' (No) 'Is this a safe place to cross the road?' (Yes, a chap said this to me not long ago!) My very favourite (not!) 'Your shoe lace is undone'. The lace in question is 2 inches long. It doesn't even touch the ground when undone. There is no possible way I could step on it and trip. Someone always spots it though and I am forced to stop and retie it. One person even stood and waited, in case I ignored the advice I suppose. In case you're wondering, I'm 63, sound of wind and limb with all my own teeth and hair. Makes you dread getting to 70!
