I HATE installing Hardware Cloth!!! HELP!

My finger tips are so sore from running 60 ft of hardware cloth for my husbands new bantams run I can't even cradle my hot coffee cup this morning. Plus I put a couple good slices from putting the flashing on the new coop so I'm in bad shape today. BUT IT'S ALL DONE!!!!

Looks great to me. Yes it is a big pain in the butt and also on people. I have cut myself up pretty good when working with it. But it keeps the babies safe. So it is worth it. Good luck

"My husband almost got arrested because of hardware cloth. Thanks to the my dog, I tripped over a section of wire and ended up with some really ugly scratches on my legs and arms. I worked at a "alternative" high school (think America's Most Wanted) and interacted with the police on a daily basis. Monday morning after tripping over the wire on Saturday, it looks horrid. I was questioned by 3 different officers if my DH had done it. I finally had to point them that the scratches were exactly 1/2 inch apart before they would stop"

haha! can so relate- I was just in a business meeting and caught people peeking at the perfectly 1/2 inch spaced scratches on my forearms...

I was thinking- should I explain? should i just leave it alone? haha.

All and all- minimum damage was done. There is some wave to cloth but you know, at this point i feel lucky to just be alive and am content to leave it at that.

Next coop I will put that stuff on before i put the frame up- How easy that would have been~!

it is easier to work in smaller sections...I staple mine and then frame it out with 1x4's or furring strips.

Also be sure to get spring loaded wire cutters...they are more pricey but your fingers will thank you.

I cut mine with a dremel and a cutting wheel... it might actually take a little longer, but it wont hurt your hands and I like seeing sparks fly

Hubby had me cut it with wire cutters. My hands were sore the next day and somehow I ended up with scratches on not only my hands and arms but my legs too. Still the damage is worth it to ensure the safety of the girls. I am already wishing for a larger coop and more chickens. Think I will take another posters advice and do it in small sections. I will say I love the screws and washers for putting it on. Much easier than fencing staples and holds better too.

When I ran out of washers, I started using bottle caps. We have a bucket that sits under the bottle cap opener that had all I needed.

Cheers,
Melissa
