I Hate Meeces to Pieces!

Oh, Honey, let me tell you about mice. We live in a 102-year old farmhouse that we are going to replace come spring. This is turning into the worst year for mice yet. They are getting SO numerous and SO bold now, they stop and wave and they scurry through the room! We have a half dozen traps and caught one finally last night after a month of trying. I bought two of the tin cat mouse "motels" and caught 7 that must have been littermates. I am looking forward to shrinking their population in the coming weeks. Every year, when the weather starts turning cold, they think they can just move in. Nasty!

"Stop and wave" . . . now that is bold!

Hi Nancy,

Well, i was desperate that first night and just put down everything i had. i do regret it now, as i know there are two mice somewhere in that shed with a sticky trap attached to some part of their body. Lord, please don't let me find the traps with chewed off feet on them!

i did get our artificial tree up. Now just need to go bin by bin and scrub them down before opening them up and bringing decorations in. This is going to take a while.

Well, not catching anymore mice in the rat zapper, but they are still in there. Pulled the blanket off the hutch with my broody and two smallest chicks to find mouse (i hope they're mouse) turds on the underside and part of the blanket chewed up.

i wonder if i should just bring the broodies and chicks into the house and remove all temptation until i can get that whole shed cleared out.

i'm tired.

I got my rat zapper from Ace hardware. It's actually the original "Rat Zapper" made by AgriZap, not the one made by Victor. I wasn't catching anything with it in the egg collection room of the layer barn, so there can't be too many mice in there. I need to get a piece of PVC tube to slip it inside so I can put it in by the chickens where I've seen some rats at night, otherwise they would either destroy it or one would stick her head inside. I've killed four rats using Conibears with entrance sets outside the barn in the past week. I moved the rat zapper to the basement of our house and have killed five mice since last night.

I keep telling the wife we're well on our way to getting her that fur coat..

I know you guys are going to think I am a weenie but…in the last couple of weeks I have caught three rats. I have caught two by the tail in the Victor wood traps. I do not mind setting the traps or disposing of the dead rats. However, having to kill what I have caught disturbs me greatly.

When I was a veterinary technician, I was able to put animals down with injections. This is very different. After having done the deed, I think I am OK, and then I end up crying my eyes out.

I will see if I can get a zapper. However, I understand that there is a question of them getting wet and using them outside. I understand that they can be put in a large tube or pipe. I may just keep a cover bucket of water nearby and just drop the rats … trap and all into it. Ugh!

Years ago, I caught much larger prey in these traps. I had a raccoon grow up with a missing hand and a possum with half of its tail missing. I caught them when they were babies and they escaped the traps. Boy! I can just see it now if I catch a bigger "rodent" in the trap. Holy moley!

Okay I am going to say this:
Rat Zapper is excellent. Unfortunately you are going to have to burn the stuff that is full of rat and mice droppings. Because of hygienic reasons remember the "Plague"?
