I hate my roo!

oh we have one like that to - I know he has to go but who the heck wants to go catch the miserable beast lol. I take a big lawn rake with me and use that to push him back if he gets to close he is a mean son of a gun - I think this fall butchering time he may go - we have another rooster and he is better - and if he turns mean I think my broody just hatched two more lmao.

I watched this video to learn how to make a kill...

I've used the method twice. It's quick like cutting their necks, but no blood. There are good youtube videos about the processing process as well. So sorry you may have to cull... I know it's not fun, but it's part of the deal I'm learning.

If you or your kids get flogged often enough...it will get to be fun to cull!

Taming a rood rooster is like taming a young chick (just more painful). Every time you go to their run and/or coop bring feed to give him. He should start eating and call his hens in to eat (this is when he may attack). Also if you can, pick him up every once and a while and pet him. He will protest to this but should get the message. Also if nessasary you can cut his spurs off so he can't stab you when he lunges at you (the spurs may bleed so be ready for that).

Our rooster, Nick, a Rhode Island Red, is always coming up behind my husband and attacking him. Yesterday he got me when I was going in the coop. This is our first time having chickens and the thought of killing him is more than I can bare. We thought of posting him on Craig's List to give him away. He is a beautiful rooster but even our thirteen hen don't seem to like him. He is so rough that they all have bald spots on their backs from him mating with them. I know we would enjoy our chickens more if we didn't have to carry a broom everytime we go in our backyard!!!

jesseanne; I am new to chickens and thought I was getting 3 hens, NOT. I now have 2 roo's and 1 hen and have seriously been looking into getting one of them neutered (I know sounds crazy) but I'm lucky that mine are both friendly towards me, I'm just concerned how the poor female hen will fare when they get older and if the 2 males will fight. I'm a vegetarian and they are like pets so killing one is not an option.

I'm trying to find a vet in my area that has experience with this and if it will take care of any possible future problems.
