It seems like I'm always "lucky" and stumble upon videos that make me want to cry. The ones about animal abuse, and neglect in the food industry. The one I just saw was about the egg industry. Poor, poor chickens.

i blame the death of family farms, which we can blame on the governments incentives for modernization of farming procedures that were pushed on family farms back in the early/mid 1900's. And then you mix in the stupidity and ignorance of consumers and its just a messy quagmire.

I dont know who should be held more accountable, the government who created it, the consumer who doesnt educate themselves, or the farmer thats just trying to survive in the only industry it knows.

All the way around no one wins in the long run.

I would just like to know who decided that 10 hens could/should fit in a tiny cage like that. Maybe we should take them and some of their friends and set up a similar senario. I bet they wouldn't like it......

Thanks for the warning, I'm not looking. I don't want to

today....

Amosunknown has it right though.

The thing that is absolutely BEYOND my comprehension...

WHY would you want to share your misery with others? WHY do you feel the need to share a video that makes you feel awful, ESPECIALLY on a site that is apparently dedicated to making chickens pets?

Part of this is being driven by the push for cheaper food. We were looking at a feature in our local newspaper that published food prices in 1960. Chicken was more expensive than it is today. But that's because prices reflected the actual costs of raising them in a humane way. Somewhere along the way, we lost our ability to distinguish right from wrong with respect to their living conditions and care. And the producers are also having to compete with foreign markets that undercut them with even worse conditions and lower costs. We just decided that we wanted to be out of the whole system, so we now raise our own chickens and also keep some family dairy cows. They are all happy and healthy.

*sticks head in sand* I'm not looking either. I know it exists but I sure don't want to see it.

i want to eliminate those factories one by one its not heathy for them and its not healthy for us to be consuming something that is sick or in need of care which as we can see they dont get at all. god didnt create these animals for them to be confined he made them so they could have a life too. and so we would have meat to eat and products from them. i dont even think there should be factories like this it sickens me to see all of them suffering and i cant do anything about it. thanks for the video it does open they eyes on how good chickens that have a coop and able to spread there wings and run till there tired of running and a owner that loves and gives them so many treats that they dont know what to do with them. one day everyone will have a chicken coop in there back yard and all those factories gone thats my dream and my wish

If you don't spread stuff like this out there then others can't know about it or educate themselves on the matter.....

I did alot of research on commercial foods and I was disgusted at what I found and quit supporting the industry by only eating what we raise or hunt. For 7 solid years now. I joined the ASPCA, wrote letters, signed petitions, donate a little money, and help take in what rescues I can and I was promted to do all of this by reading what someone had said on the matter.

Chickens are more productive, IMO, when given healthier, happier living conditions.... I tend to agree with amousunkown on the family farm matter.....you don't generally see junk like this on a family run farm.
