I am letting DH know that I love him very much, am very proud of him, but otherwise leaving him be. I know he'll come through this fine, he's a stong man.

Just read the update that your DH is going to put in his retirement papers. I am very happy for both of you and please congratulate your DH for me!! Also, to your statement above "...he's a strong man.", wanted to add that behind that man, there is a strong, loving, and understanding wife. I cannot even imagine what it must be like to be the wife of a police officer. The mental stress of worrying about their safety on a daily basis must really take it's toll. I hope you both have some fun and carefree things planned to de-stress once his retirement date comes - you BOTH deserve a break!!

The town DH works in is about 15 minutes away, as the crow flies. Technically we don't even live in the county he works in; our south fence line being the county line. Our plan when DH retires is to forget that town even exists. We go north to a much nicer town whenever possible - for shopping, medical care and recreation.

DH started his new position today. Kinda hard on him to go from 29+ years of working the night shift, to getting up at 5 AM to be at the high school by 7. Now I just have to hope that DH doesn't enjoy working at the high school so much, he does love kids, that he decides to stall on retiring.

I am sorry your dh is having to deal with this sort of pathetic mentality, but sadly people often get their positions through those they know.It is shameful what they are doing to him. I hope he makes it to April, and will have a long relaxful life following his retirement. Just a few more months!

Gritty for Mayor
Her DH for chief
The state trooper friend for sheriff

All the BYCers can move to that county and flood the place with chickens!! BWAAAHAAAHAAAAA!!!!

Just got back and saw this thread. Sounds like you did the right thing so far. Support him but let him decide. As you mentioned, it may not be over. A lot of jobs are what you make them. I have an idea that once he looks around, he will be doing a lot more than just babysetting if he is there full time.
