I hate thermometers!!!!

I have this thing http://www.extech.com/instruments/product.asp?catid=67&prodid=180 You would think, at $50 I would be able to trust it....right? The thing is so darn sensitive that it fluctuates by the second! So I added one of those $7 walmart ones. It was rock-steady at 102 for 2 weeks then suddenly dropped to 98.4 and stayed there even when I took it out and set it on the counter for an hour! (House is only 70) Now that I have the hatcher on also, I don't know which one to put in there! I would buy a Brinsea spot check if I could pick one up today, but I just don't have time to wait for shipping!

Oh goddess, I know what you mean! I have two in my incubator and they both have different readings and one changes every time I walk into the room.

We need a broody mama to show them how it's done.

I use this for temp,mine is 3 yrs old and I replace batteries every year on jan 1st. $21.35. for the humidity I go to the pet store and get a gage for reptiles $6 and just stick it in the incubator, so I can just glance into the incubator and know the humidity no fuss

the thermometer is ther ONLY thing I have yet to get for my brooder. I just need it to approximate the 95 degree temp for the first week, then I can observe the chicks behavior to see if they are too hot/cold or just right. What brand or style would you guys suggest using? I don't mean to hijack the thread, but the topic reminded me of the need for specific info. Thanks!!

Well...the stupid $50 ones are both reading 98.4 after I took 9 eggs out of the incubator (left 24 in there) and moved them to the hatcher. Both were 101.5 before that

I have 2 because....the first one worked great for a few months then the heat lamp slipped and melted the corner. DH bought me another one. I tested the melted one a dozen times, moving them both from room to room and it was accurate. Of course now it's in with the walmart one and neither one is where I want it!
