OK I am just venting a little.

DH has a very dangerous job. He gets paid well because it is dangerous and I know this. Mostly, it is just part of life. I never ever let him leave or hang up without saying "I love you, be careful, come home."

So last night was time number *8* that I got the call. "Honey, I'm O.K."

I know, I should be grateful. I once got the You need to come your husband has been hurt call and those are WAAAY worse. But, the I'm OK ones still stink. My response is the same, "What ER are you in and do I need to come get you?"

A co-worker brought him home last night. He has a nice gash on his back....... and he won't tell me exactly what happened. SIGH. I know that means it could have been much worse and I should be just so grateful that it wasn't. And I am!!! But, today I have the shakes and the fear and the reminder of how easily I could lose him.

I know that this is true of everyone we love every single day..... but I hate the reminders.

I got a call my first day back at an old job. My MIL called me, and the first thing she said was "he's OK"

He was in the hospital with two broken legs (one just above the ankle the other was at the ankle joint and the ankle was dislocated.)

I am thankful daily my DH is a computer geek. Yayy for software architects who often work from the comfort and safety of HOME.

I am sorry your husband has been hurt on his job.

I am sorry, it is hard to feel that way

My husband does the same thing while he is deployed because he knows I watch all the news sources for activity where he is at. I get the same call "I'm okay" No details, nothing. (obviously he can't give any) If there is an incident close or at his area.

Sorry to hear your DH was injured. Makes us thankful for our loved ones each and every day. Be right back...gotta go call my Mom and tell her I love her!

Are these braves cops or firefighters, or what? I second Miss Prissy's thanks for a man whose biggest threat is electricity.

Still, tell me what these guys do so I can thank them properly.

My Dh is a firefighter at an oil refinery.

One year I was at a seminar and this other firefighter was talking about oil refinery fire fighters and he said, "Oh those guys are crazy, by time we get there they've either got it all under control or they're all dead."

It made me think long and hard about marrying him. Honestly thought fires are rare, its the leaks and other things that cause the problems. They had two men (not firefighters) die a couple of years ago trying to retrieve a roll of tape from a reactor! can you imagine living with that? Knowing that you're spouse was gone over a roll of tape?

You wanna see some good reminders go to the Chemical Safety Board web site they have videos of accidents that ended in fatalities.

Dept of Labor said there were 5,488 fatal work injuries in 2007, down from 5,840 in 2006 and 6,217 in 1992. More people die at work in one year than have died in the entire Iraq war.......

not even office geeks are safe from injury. My DH who was a combat soldier before he was a recruiter, just got hurt two weeks ago. He was at the gym with other soldiers, stretching BEFORE a game of basketball , when he strained his lower back warming up.
But i got more calls when he worked outside as a soldier.
1. he got bitten by a cottonmouth "go step on it and kill it"
2 he got stung by about 10-12 hornets
3 he got shot across his boot when he stepped on a basic trainees weapon to keep the machine gun down
With incident one and three his leathercombat boots with steeltoes saved him from loosing live and limbs.

I know exactly what you mean when you get the "I'm O.K." call.

My husband builds houses for a living and the other day when he called I knew instantly when I heard his voice that somethings was wrong. I asked him what had happened and he told me that he had gotton whaled across the top of his head with a 2 x 4. He had a goose egg on his head for a couple days.

This isn't the first call either. I am also thankful that God keeps him safe for me and the girls.

Sorry to hear about your hubby. Hope he gets better soon.
