I HATE TICKS!!!!

I do have DE in their pen and sleeping area. As much as I would love to dust the other 11 acres w/ it I think it's unreasonable, lol. That's where we pickup the ticks though, it's all brush, trees and tall grasses. I need to rent a brush mower and get rid of the tall stuff where we walk!

I will definitely try the drier sheets, though. I only thought that worked with mosquitoes and the mosquitoes don't bother us during the day, so I've never tried it.

Thanks for the ideas everyone!!

LOL MY DH is already"sour" about the recent increase of chickens. I'm afraid I'd be living in the coop if I brought guineas home!!

Angie, mention to him that you have a broody hen and then schedule a delivery of guineas for 21 days from now. When he notices that they don't look like chickens (after you have had them for a while) casually mention how amazing it is that a chicken should hatch out guineas---wonder how that happened?!

At the beginning of warm weather here I still had my guineas inside and my poor dog would come in from outside everytime with 3-4 new ticks. I let the guineas out and Presto ! Only 1 tick or so a week. Can you have them?

Hmmm ... guineas. We have 13 acres and ticks here are a huge problem. My 4 year old has had three this week, and even my 14 month old has had two on him. And these are the teeniest, tinest little ticks I've ever seen.

My 12 hens free range but I don't think they're quite enough to handle all our ticks. We have about 8 acres of heavy woods and keep about 5 acres mowed.

It's Frontline for the dog and cat, and I have ordered some food grade DE for around the play gym for the kiddos.

With such a large area, do you think guineas would even make a difference? And, how many would you recommend? I'm always looking for a way to add to my flock.
