I have 4 EE's aprx 4 wks ? and was wondering if anyone could tell if Roo or Pullet?

Thank you guys really nice to have this site to ask questions from people who have the experience. I really appreciate all your advice and idea's. I am going to attach pictures of the rest of the standard EE's to see. The one labled # 4 I bought from a separate feed store and was told she was sexed as a pullet.? The first one I put on here and the ones labled 2 and 3 all came from same breeder and where "straight run". The rest of the chickens that are straight run are the Polish Crested, 5 of the 7 Silkies , the Mille Fleur oh and I forgot to mention the Wyandotte that one too was straight run. Although when I bought girl looked and felt All of mine were pullet's. lol

I will take pics of the rest of my crew that are straight run and see what you all think. Don't worry not getting rid of until totally sure but just curious what you all think.

LOVE this one's personality! We call her Nala ;)

I will be sad if #3 is a Roo I did notice the extra bumps on beak? We named her Marilyn because she was very feathery and white as a little chick. Seemed at time very girlie. ;)

Ok Here are some of my straight run chicks curious if can tell Pullet's or Roo's?

First are 3 of my 6 Polish other 3 are only 2 weeks old so most likely too soon? The first two the Silver Laced and White crested black are about 4 weeks now the Golden Laced Polish is about 3 weeks or 2 1/2 weeks?

We call this one Cruella De Vil

I think she was playing dead she refused to stand up! lol

This one we call "Pepper" This one is the reason I have Polish I just feel in LOVE look at her! Well hopefully her ;)

This little one we call Goldie
She is younger so her top hat is just starting to come in

This is the Wynadotte I'm guessing approaching 4 wks now very submissive and shy. Oh we named her "Dot"

This is the Millie Fleur my daughter call's her pumpkin because she was so tiny and round and orange color. She has NO problem hanging out with the big ones she gets everywhere they do and squishes her way in where she wants. She is not afraid of any of them. lol

Again this one was funny would NOT lift head kept beak on counter. lol

Can't help with sexing the polish, not a breed I'm familiar with. The others all look pretty girly to me but I'd watch that #3 bird, Marilyn. It doesn't necessarily look roo to me, I'm just not sure with that red feathering coming in, the comb looks pretty pale.

As far as keeping a mixed bantam/standard flock with a standard roo.... I have for four years now and never had a problem. In my flock of 13 I have 5 bantams, three bantam Welsummer's and two Golden Sebrights. My rooster is a 10 lb RIR. He seldom mates with the bantams but it does happen. The Sebrights are about the tiniest chickens I've ever had. The older one doesn't put up with the roosters nonsense, when he dances for her she just darts away. The younger one will squat for him and he makes the attempt but with the size difference it's just not happening. Usually he just looks at her like she's crazy! The Welsummer bantams are a bit bigger and he mates with them with no problem. It really just depends on your rooster. If he is aggressive it might be a problem and sometimes young roo's are pretty rough until they mature and gain some finesse. My roo is 4 years old, calm and long past the raging teenage hormone stage!

As far as keeping roo's together, especially a bantam and a standard... I don't know if I'd do it unless you had them in a lot of space and lots of hens. If they are going to be in a coop and run I would not do it. If they were both standards then maybe. Roosters often learn to get along with one being dominant but with a bantam I'd just be concerned for his well being if there was a confrontation.

id say number 3 EE is a roo

possible the mille fluer too

rest look pullet

except the polish its too early to sex them

here is a tip for polish sexing

White Crested Polish - The females tend to get more fluffy, mushroom looking crests.

I agree about EE #3.. I also think the Mille Fleur is a possible roo. I dont do polish tho. Sorry

As for EE#3. Just curious what is making you guys lean towards Roo? I see the colors on wings is it that? The comb is light so thought that meant pullet? Or can still change darker? Just curious so can keep watch on others and fun learning ;). I'm hoping our Millie is a female was hoping by light comb but I guess not a true indication ?

the comb is light but still darker than the others and its bigger (its like a bruised pink where as a pullet is a pale pink)

also pullet peacombs are almost flat at that age

so any increase in size at such a young age suggest roo regardless of colour

that's what sways us to roo on the both mille and EE 3

same here. It's more the size that makes me say roo

It sure looks like his chest is going to be black as well. Black chest on a chicken that isn't solid black is a decidedly male trait.
