month old chicken, it has some stuff around its eye, I have included a photo. Has anyone seen this? Any ideas on what I should do for the poor girl? Thank you!

Welcome to BYC.

As soon as I saw it I thought fowl pox. Does she have any other symptoms?

No, she seems fine, she does not seem to feel bad. Thanks for the reply!

@Eggcessive, do you mind looking at this when you have a second? It looks like fowl pox to me, but I don't know much about treatment if it is that.

What is your location? Do you have a lot of mosquitoes out right now? I agree that it could be possible fowl pox, a virus spread by mosquitoes. I would try to use a warm compress on the eye, to soften any crust. Then apply either Terramycin eye ointment from a feed store, or a dab of plain Neosporin ointment twice a day. Fowl pox lasts a few weeks, and most chickens survive it. Make sure that she can see her food and water.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for the response. Yes, we do have mosquitoes, I am in Tampa Florida, the mosquito and lighting capital of the world. so we do have a lot of them buzzing around. Is this something that is contagious if it is fowl pox? I appreciate the info and your time helping me out.

Take care,

Mark
