I have a bone to pick with Richmond, VA.

I have no laws for chickens in my neighborhood.. really know one cares. I live in the more populated side of the country where everyone has acres in the back (we all live in the woods). I think me and only 2 other people have chickens in our neighborhood. I really don't like my neighbor, don't get me wrong they are nice, but they have a massive cat that they let outside KNOWING I HAVE A BUNCH OF BIRDS and let him come into OUR yard and try to kill all my ducks and chickens! I had to fence up my chickens because of this and all my ducks do all day is hide under the porch. Honestly I know cats hunt, I 2 have outside cats, but they don't go attacking every ones poultry, at one point we got sick of it, got our beebee gun (sorry not sure how to spell it) and scared it away by shooting around where it was...
edit: I just read this, they don't know the cat tried to kill my poultry even after I informed them they did nothing... the cat is doing this the people aren't making the cat do it lol my mistake.

it's usually not the dog(s) that needs to be put down...;). some people should not own animals. and the animal will always pay the price.
Agreed, in Texas I have had more than one cute loving family pet put down. Usually because my a-hole neighbors stop feeding their beloved because it isn't of value to them any longer and it starts sniping chicken(Vernon's Texas Health and Safety Codes) then describe it as a coyote once it harasses livestock or fowl. It is so sad they can't euthanize their own animals vs. turn the neighborhood into "Game of Thrones". I am now feeding one of my a-hole neighbors dogs again as it begs at my gate AGAIN so the cycle will be repeating soon. Unfed dog kills poor as heck neighbors chickens..... Yes Vernon's does make it a crime to neglect your dog, just I can't get my deputies to ticket these people.

Some of us have jobs in the city and can’t afford to move away but thanks for your evaluation. I wasn’t raised in the city which is why I have such an issue with the yuppies and their dog-children.
I honestly was not trying to make an "evaluation" about where anyone should live, and I was raised in the city. Not trying to offend either :idunno. I was imagining that it would be funny for all those who are displeased with chickens in the city.. looking up to see chickens coming down the street. I personally think it would be adorably funny.

that's unfortunate. are your neighbours somehow related to your deputy? maybe make the dog disappear, find it a home somewhere else where it will be minded with care. or take it to the humane society in a different county? I know that sounds illegal. I have seen some appalling treatment of dogs here and well, just take the poor thing away from the abuser.

is there a different source of authority you can call? like an animal rights organisation? might be helpful for you.

I live in Texas too, and in rural communities there is usually NO animal control, NO shelters, most people do not care. There are small networks of people who work hard to rescue any they can (I foster.. shh don't tell I don't need dogs dumped at my gate) The best the sheriffs office will usually do is come out and shoot the dog. Its a sad and appalling situation. People don't spay/neuter.. they let animals run.. dump them on rural roads, and dog fighting is prevalent. Every rescue is overwhelmed and always full, heart breaking.

Pretty much the same here in rural missouri.
We have no animal control and law enforcement isn't likely gonna come out for a dog issue unless its a dog biting a person.
With enough pressure on our end occasionally you can get county to come out and they will shoot a dog and leave.
Here we're expected to take care of a dog situation on our own and law enforcement is quite content with harrassing dogs to be put down.
No shelters around here but you can go closer to the city and find a few. Every shelter anywhere near here makes you pay a fee to surrender a dog to them no matter if dog is yours or stray or what have you.
