Oh she's perfectly healthy, as soon as she heard my "noise" for food, she started doing it and that brought the other 2 over to eat. When I refresh the food, she runs over and makes her peeping "Let's eat, here's food" noises. So cute! Then runs over to the water and does it there. She flits around with one of the Splash (I'm guessing she'll be black, blue would come out blue, right?) and they play together.
The Splash are the prettiest shade of silver I've ever seen on a bird.
Never had an issue with Cocci, it's not floating around from previous issues, and just to be sure, I gave them their own food and water separate from the 3 older chicks, and the brooder is divided. They're on ManaPro gamebird starter with kitchen treats of tomato, squash, and banana smooshed up tiny. They'll start getting Spinach leaves when they're bigger. I'm paranoid about diseases and issues like that, since once it's around, if you're not careful, you can unintentionally reintroduce it. The big birds don't get an outside water source, it's inside protected and kept clean.
The last one out had some sort of a fluid build up in it's neck, and I've spent extra time with it (much to the dismay of the cry baby) massaging the area and doing "physical therapy" to help it be able to lift it's head. It's much improved now and getting around and acting perkier. I fed it bits of boiled egg yolk and made sure it has gotten water regularly to keep it's strength up. The swelling felt just like a swelling a person would get from fluid... it didn't act like it was in pain, more stiff than anything. It has steadily dissipated since it hatched and now looks normal. Weirdest thing!
I've learned more this last couple of hatches than all my previous hatches. I don't know what the deal is! Same incubator style. But 15 years ago, I would set eggs, and chicks would come out. No issues, everything perfect from the start. I was using my own eggs, all Bantam. This time I'm using only shipped eggs, in standard sizes.
Been awhile since I've had a cry baby. The last time was a "rescue" egg I took from a hen, and hatched the day after I put it in the incubator. The rest had another 20 days, so I was her momma for a good month. Toted her around in a shoe box (it was summer time, heat wasn't an issue) every where I went, and she had a desk top rodent cage with a heat bulb when I was on the computer. I tried putting her with ducklings, and she said absolutely not. When the other eggs finally did hatch, only one little Roo came out, and she had it out for him for at least a week before she decided he was alright.
