I Have a Heavy Heart

I don't know it this is related or not but in the years of raising Dobermans and Arabian horses I learn with neither animal could be trained with force. You had to learn to have both think what you wanted them to do was their own idea. Neither could be forced to do what you wanted. Possibly working in that light may bring some results. I just don't know. My rooster is just so friendly I can't comment on mean roosters.

Wow, I'm sorry you had to go through that! I'm not looking forward to my first issue with a roo.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to try and help. My roo IS fine....I did not hurt him. I'm very thankful for that. I made a definite decision yesterday and have begun the process of trying to find him another home. I don't want to spend any more time doing what we've been doing with him and I certainly don't trust him. I'm hoping he'll know how to act in a different flock. Now if I can just find him another home. Wish me luck and thank you again!!!

i have a chicken stick i always carry , my rooster will attack me for using power tools if i dont have the stick. he will attack my foot or my hand , he respects the stick , havent ever had to use the stick on him

I think you're making the right decision, as long as you're giving him away with FULL disclosure of his behavior. If he's mean with you, I'm guessing he'll be mean wherever he goes. Please make sure he doesn't go to a family with children. I have my chickens for eggs, meat and enjoyment (pretty much in that order). I don't have the time nor the patience to have to deal with a mean rooster. If one chicken is preventing me from being able to go out and enjoy working with or watching my birds, it will go. After all, why add unneccesary stress to you life?

One other thing to consider - what kind of life is it for your rooster to be booted or chased around every time you go out to your chickens? Not saying I wouldn't do the same thing. I would if my rooster attacked me. But he wouldn't be around for long if the behavior continued. Three strikes is being generous.
