My 3 year old grand son got into my incubator , and opened one of my duck eggs , about a day due to hatch , now the poor thing is breathing but very still , peeps everyone in a while and looks weak , I laid it on a soft cloth in the incubator , but the problem is it's yolk sack hasn't absorbed and not completely out of the shell . I know you guys are going to tell me it's going to die . What should if anything should I do ? All I can do now is wait . Please tell me I can save this duckling ...

I keep the incubator in my bedroom . I think this kid went straight for it , Sneaking around the house into the back door and into my bedroom . There is nothing I can do now , I was upset but he's only 3 , He told me he just wanted to see it .

I can't believe after a day it's still alive . It looks a lot better than yesterday . It' looks stronger and wiggling more , It looks as if the yolk is absorbing . although yesterday It looked like it was going through some sort of sezsure . Today it looks like it would be almost ready to hatch , or normal looking hatchling . Since I have never delt with this sort of problem . I know it still may not make it but at least now I have some small hope that it might make it .

WOW that is amazing, go little guy go. I'm counting on him that he does make it. That is so cool, your gonna have to send pics as soon as he is up and running around. Have faith, he'll make it, sounds like a fighter to me..

If you can do it without disturbing the poor little thing, try giving it a little bit of electrolyte solution with some avian vitamins added. You could probably use an eye dropper.

My little guy made it !!!!

He/she is up walking around , eating drinking and doing normal ducky things. (which means making a real mess with water )

He/she was followed my 4 more yesterday and 2 today .

One hatched didn't live through the night . One died in shell. I have 3 more pipping out of the shell .

It seems that they get stuck in mid hatch , and the membrane starts to dry . I fixed this by wetting a paper towel and gently rubbing the membrane away or just getting it wet enough for it to push out .I tried increasing the humidity but this didn't help .

Now I know why I ordered 6 ducklings from the farm and only got 4 , they don't hatch well . I was told only 8 out of 10 live .

I already have people asking for ducks and wanting to buy them . I never intended to sale my ducks . I just love my ducks and wanted a few more . This clutch means alot to me , because I lost their mother , she was egg bound , the egg burst and she died .

During the night we could hear them peeping , I would get up and check them , and finally went to sleep . My husband and I checked the incubator this morning to find 2 more ducklings had hatched . I just hope the other 3 pipping now make it That will make and even 10 ducklings in the last month to live . So far I have lost five duckilngs . I know they are ducks but I am heartbroken every time one doesn't make it .
I'll post again and let you know if the other 3 make it .

WOW!!! I wouldn't have believed any bird could survive being forcibly hatched out before it was ready!!!
You HAVE to call that one Lucky. I hope your grandson won't be 'hatching' any more of them.
Congratulations on your extremely strong duckling. That's an amazing story. Very cool!

So glad you had a happy ending!!
