I bet it is Dunlap Hatchery that the feed store is getting there birds from.. Dunlap Hatchery is in Caldwell, Idaho http://www.dunlaphatchery.net/

Chris

if that hatchery had them wouldnt they post that they have standard silkys ?

There not a Large Fowl silkie there a cross, look at the comb..
The comb that the OP posted look to be a modified single comb and not a Walnut. Silkies have a Walnut Comb..
All so it look like the OP's bird has blue shanks, Silkies should be Black..

Yes, I've had her as a pet since 7th grade. I'd never dream of selling of her.

whoa did not realizeshe was that old

She still lays occasionally. She's still a pretty girl even in her old age.

The European standard says the hen should weigh 3 pounds and Wooly weighs 3 1/2 pounds. So she is in the weight range for a standard silkie.

i will call them and ask them in the morning. i dont like to give out numbers.... im hoping there will be a return addy on the package from the place i am getting the chicks. i want to know where they are getting them and i want to know if these next ones will turn out like Evyle and her siblings did.. they will call me first thing tuesday and have me come pick them up!then i will have addy for the person who sells them. i have been waiting 3 weeks for them so im pretty sure they are hatched out only per order we will see

ok well im gonna change the d title of the thread to HUGE silkie... sorry if i offended anyone by calling her pure.... regaudless, if the chicks i get tomorrow turn out to be huge like Evyle.... i do plan on breeding them eventually with my SQ Buff and SQ black roos.

also back to the original question please

i need to figure out how to make these other colors!!
Black, blue, blue splash, buff and partridge

thanks agian

There are some breeders with large silkies already. It appears to me that some lines have a tendency to throw larger birds than others. I have one roo which is a good bit larger than my others, and he has great silkie type. I have not weighed him, but he's as heavy as a runner duck hen.

I am certain there are breeders with silkies that meet the standards but are large enough to meet the UK weight standards for standard silkies. Don't fuss about with hatchery birds, call breeders and tell them what you are looking for. Some might be culling their overlarge birds?

She looks to me to be a typical hatchery quality silkie--they are often, if not usually, lacking in crest size, have single combs, poorly feathered feet, etc. However, they are NOT usually 10 lb! Mate her to the best quality and largest white male silkie you can find--worry about adding colours later--first "build the barn." The specifics you are looking for is a true walnut comb, good foot feathering and typiness. Obviously, you want all the other silkie traits, but those are the ones that need improving.

We're talking two separate birds and owners here. Woolie is not the hen listed in the original post.
