I have a lesbian Hen.

I know this thread was asking for assistance and it was very educational but my goodness, did I ever get some good chuckles while reading. Did you really put a rainbow flag on the coop???

I too am grateful for this post. I've had two instances where 2 of my dominant hens have mounted each other. They also lay in the same nest at the same time. Glad to know this is common practice.

It's actually kind of normal for a dominant hen to be aggressive towards new chicks. It's very unusual for a rooster to be aggressive towards chicks. Most roosters are only interested in mature hens, and ignore immature or younger birds.
Broody hens do change the flock dynamic, though. And that is likely what is behind the recent behavior.

Agreed with above bold print quote. I find that in my flock, it's the lower pecking order hens who tend to be more aggressive to chicks, as they have more to loose in the pecking order if a chick should rise through the ranks. My roo is very good with chicks. He tid bits them, and lets them pick morsels of food off his beak and wattles.

I have added another coop since this, and I have the same problem in the new coop. I guess it is just a pecking order thing, but they make all the moves that a roo does. I find it funny. I always yell at them and tell them they are not Roosters!
