Okay Im a little confused about something. Last Saturday I went to go check on my three hens before I left on a week vacation to Texas. My dad was going to take care of my animals for a week and he did a good job. But before I left that morning I saw that there was three eggs in the nesting box but I was running late and I had to leave so I figured my dad would grab them when he went to take care of my chickens later that day. Fast forward to today when my dad told me that he forgot to collect the eggs each day while he was gone. So after he told me that I figured I better go grab them. I was prepared to be collecting lots of eggs since they haven't been collected for a week, but instead I found just three eggs there. This left me clueless and a little worried. Since my three hens are leghorns they all lay pretty much daily this time of year. So I usually get three eggs daily, maybe on some days two. Im speechless... Do y'all have any idea on what could have caused this?

Im not sure if they are the same three eggs or not because they all look the same. I don't know how an animal would have gotten into my coop though. Would a small animal be able to eat eggs?

If the chicens were eating the eggs daily there would be a big mess in the nesting box and you couldent miss it.
I wonder if someone else on the household was gathering them. Check the regrigerator.
The only time i had a disapering egg situation was when our young dog was sneeking in and taking the eggs out one by one and eating them out of sight of the house.
Keep us updated, this is a mystery.

Thats what I thought. I figured if the chickens were eating the eggs there would be a big mess. But also my chickens have never ate their eggs. Also my dad was the only person home while I was gone.

So yesterday I took out those three eggs and when I went to go care for them this morning there was two eggs in the nesting box which two is normal somedays. But instead of taking them out I left them in there so I can see tonight if something has been taking them. Have ya'lls chickens just stopped laying for a week? If it is an animal what do you think the type of animal is so I can get rid of it? I do have an inside/outside cat but he loves the chickens and has never gotten inside the coop or run as far as I know. Could a person have stole my eggs last week? Still very confused. Trying to figure this out

I would look around for hitting eggs. My thought is a chicken it’s probably eating them. I had a problem with mine doing that and they didn’t leave a big mess they made sure they ate every bit of the insides and the shell. Or it could be an animal. I’ve heard of mice actually rolling eggs away into a hiding spot and stockpiling them. Or maybe a snake ? There are several animals that will eat eggs. What is the largest openings you have to the Coop
