Can someone explain the difference between the spalding varieties and the varieties that look more like the india blue.varieties

for instance i noticed there are white spaldings and cameo spaldings and then there are white peafowl that look more like india blue and cameo that look like the body shape of india blue.

Spaldings come in every variety an Indian peafowl can. Spaldings are the hybrid between Green peafowl and Indian Peafowl. 3 Sub species of Green peafowl, 111 varieties of Indian peafowl and 111 varieties of Spaldings. Depending on how much Green peafowl or Indian Peafowl blood they have will determine how they look. There are few signs to find Spaldings though.

Indian Blue peahen about to lay. Green neck brown head, no rusty orange to the primaries, solid wing, cream color breast feathers.

Face has white between jaw and eye fanned out crest. Spalding would have yellow under the eye and a tight crest.

Black Shoulder hen, crest fanned out

White doesn't have yellow under eye, crest is fanned out.

Indian Blue male, white under the eye.

Spalding hen, split to White. Has green on top of the head, more color to the face, buff laced breast feathers, color travels down the breast, lots of barring on the wing, darker on the back and wing than an Indian, and long tail feathers compared to Indian Peafowl. Also the tail will have some barring on it too.

ok i just dont like their body form i think it looks more dinosaurie than the more full body of the india blues. or maybe im just being silly the colors are beautiful in both.

good to know but i live in mississippi so freezing isnt too bad here . plus its gonna be some years before i can consider getting peafowl im just getting all the preparations down before i bring it up .

Good idea to prepare than buy on impulse. Actually if you look at pictures of wild Indian Blue Peafowl you will notice that they have very slim builds and long legs. There are also other differences, but it just highlights the influence that domestication has had on peafowl. If you are not a fan of the slim build and long legs then India Blue varieties would be best. I had a high percentage spalding peacock (and currently have a young one) and they do fine in NY winters.
