Can someone explain the difference between the spalding varieties and the varieties that look more like the india blue.varieties
for instance i noticed there are white spaldings and cameo spaldings and then there are white peafowl that look more like india blue and cameo that look like the body shape of india blue.
Spaldings come in every variety an Indian peafowl can. Spaldings are the hybrid between Green peafowl and Indian Peafowl. 3 Sub species of Green peafowl, 111 varieties of Indian peafowl and 111 varieties of Spaldings. Depending on how much Green peafowl or Indian Peafowl blood they have will determine how they look. There are few signs to find Spaldings though.
Indian Blue peahen about to lay. Green neck brown head, no rusty orange to the primaries, solid wing, cream color breast feathers.
Face has white between jaw and eye fanned out crest. Spalding would have yellow under the eye and a tight crest.
Black Shoulder hen, crest fanned out
White doesn't have yellow under eye, crest is fanned out.
Indian Blue male, white under the eye.
Spalding hen, split to White. Has green on top of the head, more color to the face, buff laced breast feathers, color travels down the breast, lots of barring on the wing, darker on the back and wing than an Indian, and long tail feathers compared to Indian Peafowl. Also the tail will have some barring on it too.
