I have 7 hens and 1 rooster, my rooster crowes on and off all day but this evenining one of my hens crowed...The small one (bantam) is the one that has been crowing for months now and the larger one (alstrap) just crowed today....how do I determine if she is a rooster and what to do next....This is my first time owning chickens.

Thanks for the reply...any reason he decides to wait so long to crow...and can I keep them together?

10 hens to 1 rooster so sell your least favorites or all of them if you are not looking to hatch out babies their is no point in a rooster except to protect his hens and if not "dominated" properly he will not respect you and will attack you thinking you are going to steal his girls.

Larger breeds mature slower. You probably can keep them as long as they don't fight too much or mate the hens too much. I always wait and see how it goes.
