I brought 5 chicks home in Feb from the local Orscheln's and discovered that one of them had pasty butt. It was a bit smaller than the other 4. I cleaned it up, trimmed the down around it's little butt and kept it greased up with olive oil that I applied frequently with a cotton swab. Plenty of warmth, good food and rooster booster pro-biotics and vitamins in their water. Problem solved in 36 hours.
These little ones go through so much in their journey from hatchery to feed store or farm supply then to their new home and brooder. The stress is terrible and it amazes me that they all don't suffer more problems.
The only thing I can think of to suggest is that you might try some Poly Vi Sol baby vitamins without Iron along with the sugar water for the unsteadiness. I am trying to remember the dosage but I think it's a drop a day. Please confirm that if you go that route.
You are doing a great job with this little one. Keep up the good work.
