I have a strange question

Again, a lot of mis-information. Laying an egg as being the female sex, then changing sex to that of a male is exactly how that scenario would play out. This is information strictly about sex change. As I do not live, nor have I seen the duck or environment in question there is no way to know more about this than the OP.

I digress.

Rare means rare
Ducks don't lay an egg then change sex
I saw no scientific evidence of this and why isn't anyone interested in giving this person advise on her Drake's issue
I didn't think that the O P meant that it was still hanging out. . just that they saw it at some point in time hanging out. If it IS still hanging out and not retracting then yes it is a prolapse and I hope they come back here and get some advice on that.
I have a hard time believing that a chicken or duck can completely undergo a sex change. . I can see the possibility of a female starting to exhibit male characteristics due to a hormone imbalance. . or vice versa. But I highly doubt if it was born a female that it would suddenly grow a penis.
Now as far as the possibility of there being hermaphrodite animals. . I do not know. . but it obviously happens in humans from time to time so I suppose it is possible.
All that being said I am not a scientist or an expert and I don't claim to be. . these are just my opinions. :)

Folks, lets make sure we stay on topic and stay away from any speculation or arguing.

To answer the OP, ......In my own flock, I have had a couple of ducks, at the age of 8 years+ stop laying and develop drake feathers and green heads. In my opinion, no duck can spontaneously change from a female to a male. However, if hatched as a rare anomaly with both sets of sexual organs, could possibly have one or the other dominant at different times in it's life. Though I imagine this would be pretty darn rare.
