Dang it I have to have a root canal on #15 which aleady has a crown. I've a had root canal done before on another molar but apparently this tooth will require a specialist. At least this dentist gave me pain meds and antibiotics. Last time nothing was prescribed and the tooth abscessed which caused so much swelling I nearly had to be intubated so I could breathe. Not to mention the pain was unbearable.

Oh well, the LoriTab is taking away the pain.

    Wish me luck!

[IMG]Sourland hates tooth pain and root canals. I empathize with you - have had two root canals on crowned teeth. [IMG] The antibiotics should help reduce the pain within 12 to 24 hours and once the infection is under control they can continue the process.

I told my dentist that before he retires he will have to remove all my teeth. I don't trust any one else working on them. [IMG]

It is great you are going to a specialist. Root canals thru Crowns is not the norm and a specialist will be able to go thru the crown. I've had many root canals and really the worst part is paying for them. If it is painful they should give you more medicine and then continue. Good luck and don't worry.

Thanks for the support! Fortunately, I have dental insurance through my husband's plan which will take care of most of the cost. The plan paid for today's visit. I felt so blessed as last time I had my teeth worked on my purse was $2,000 dollars lighter. My main concern is a root canal may or may not stop the pain, and I really do not want to go through this only to have the tooth extracted.

The referring dentist said if the root canal does not stop the pain he would extract the tooth at no charge which I thought was very kind of him.

I hear that. I had the world's best dentist. So kind and gentle. I'm not the best dental patient but he calmed my fears, and always talked about fishing or redoing his 100 year old farm house. Alas, he died unexpectedly while painting his living room.
