Dont get me started on this issue. To their credit, the postmaster at our local P.O. in my town is awesome and takes his job very seriously. The P.O. that is closest to me (over the line in NC) isn't so concerned about stuff, it seems. Our postmaster said they are supposed to be cracking down on Priority mail being delivered in 2 days, period. They were told that if it was late, they had to do everything in their power to get it to its destination, even if it meant driving to get that package themselves. And mine did. He drove an hour away to pick up shipped eggs that were misrouted (on purpose he told me, to cover someone's screwup). Pride in a job well done is sorely lacking today.
The P.O. is a private entity, a monopoly. They are not part of the federal govt, though they sure act like it.

We had problems this year with USPS. Hoovers Hatchery was really nice, but they probably lost money (unless USPS paid $ for all the dead chicks).

They said that the turkey chicks were showing up dead and losts of chicks too. It was the stuff shipped to Michigan area only. Rest of the country fine. So who knows what they were doing:)

There is a lady who worked for the USPS in Howell, MI and she resigned in August and her mini storage went up for auction due to non payment.

When the storage unit was inspected, they found tons of mail! She said she was unable to deliver them so put them in the storage unit. This was over several years and several thousand pieces of mail, packages included.

this weeks paper said that she is not be procesuted at the federal level. Local is still investigating.

The whole thing seems weird to me!!!

There are some great postal workers out there and some it is just a paycheck. You will find that in all professions.

Miss P: I hope they find the chicks alive and happy.

Be careful when you get them out, one batch of ours was a day late getting here and they were so thirsty that they drowned each other trying to get drinks. Lost half of that batch:( Within a 45 mintues of getting them settled in.

To the OP: our post office calls us between 6-6:30am when our chicks arrive and we are able to go to the back door and knock and they bring them too us...I think the chipping gets a little loud for them..lol

I have even had the Lansing PO call at 7:00pm saying that the chicks are there and if we want we can drive the 1/2 hour and pick them up so they don't sit all night.

I am sorry Miss Prissy on the missing chickies....I agree, we had 45 and they were LOUD! Our local PO was more than happy to open up at 7:30 to hand me my noisy chicks.....They still ask me how they are doing! LOL

I wish more PO employees were as good as ours is. Chalk it up to Small Town USA! Cannot be a better group.

And, I don't care how many days they have left, they should be doing all they can to find your babies!

So sorry to hear that Miss Prissy. I know how frustrating it can be. When I ordered my first chicks, the Marans, back in July and they didn't arrive in two days because they took them to Jackson and then missed the only run to Woodville (3 hrs away) so wouldn't be delivering them till the third day because "USPS didn't guarantee overnight" eventhough the shipper paid for overnight. DH and I called so many times and so many people includng the USPS office in Jackson till a lady there went and got the box of chicks and called us back and said "they are on my desk, they are peeping and chirping and I will leave them inside till morning" - we were worried to death they were baking alive on a loading dock or hot truck in the 100+ July heat. The P.O. here did call us the next morning at 7:00 a.m. when the truck arrived and gave us the chicks and did the same thing the next day when my peachicks arrived. Since then they are great about calling us at 7:00 a.m. when the truck arrives whenever I get eggs or chicks.

During that first experience I have never been so nervous about anything in my entire life. I could not even sleep. I kept praying for those little chicks and swore I would never again order something alive - good thing God didn't hold me to that one.

Then when I ordered my new Sportsman last month, via Fed Ex, and it was suppose to arrive the same day as my 6 dozen eggs and the eggs arrived but the bator did not - we started tracking it. GQF said it was "on the truck and due to be delivered today at 6:00 p.m.". No delivery. By 7:00 p.m. DH started calling and using tracking # - which said "attempted delivery at 6:00 p.m. failed". He called everyone in Fed Ex headquarters and told them I had been waiting in back yard and he had been literally sitting on front porch and no one had attempted to deliver anything. He finally got some big wig to look into things, since it was "after hours" and found out that "attempted delivery" meant they had actually put the box on the truck in McComb(1 hr away) that morning, logged it in, and then for some reason, took it off and decided to wait till the next day to deliver it at 6:00. We figured that's because the next day would be Friday and if you have to drive to a one stop sign town at 6:00 in the evening you should go on a Friday night since that same town has an all nude, fully nude, nudie bar.

So sorry to hear this MissPrissy, I pray that you recieve all your chicks alive. Have you heard anything else?

Not sure why the girl from the hatchery didn't sound more concerned, I guess maybe she has gotten alot of calls like that, maybe

. I guess I would have to call back and ask to speak to someone higher up in the "hatchery ranks".

Here's praying for a safe arrival

but I can understand why you are

ETA: Remember MP how you told me that they are very strong little critters?

I've had mine sent to the wrong post office twice this year. It was a 2 hour drive round trip to get them. Needless to say it's their mistake, but they won't bring the chicks to the right post office the same day. So, they would have died left there.
