Greetings fellow Chick-aholics. I've got a Cackle Surprise in a brooder box right now, will be moving them out in the grow out pens in just alittle while. I already moved out this morning, the Banty Special I got from Ideal the same week as the Cackle Surprise.....HEY, they were on sale.
big_smile.png

Why am I moving them out? Well to make room from my Cornishes coming from Nature's Hatchery, and my Cackle order coming in this week of 2 female goslings, 1 blue slate turkey(to go with the two I got from my Cackle Surprise) and 25 Frying Pan special chicks.

In addition, I starting next week the eggs in my Sportmans Cabinet incubator are due to hatch...

And just now before I read this thread, I sent in my payment to Ideal for 6 pullet Minocras 2 male Minocras, and 3 Light Brahma pullets. Haven't told hubby about this one yet.

P.S. And have two ducklings in the bathtub...taking their morning swim.

Not even to mention the 9 ducklings that have already been outside in the grow out pens for a few weeks now...almost ready to move to the duck pen and the 17 guinea keets I got locally.

I am. I have a LOT of eggs right now, but I just keep putting them in the bator. I can't bring myself to let any of them go. I am totally addicted to hatching and chicks and everything! I need to let go of some of them, I have 2 bators full and I just bought some quail eggs from here! LOL What in the world do I need quail eggs for.

But I am so excited and I can't wait to get them.

well...I HAD 8 ducks and 4 geese...about 40 chickens in various stages of developement...hens went broody...hatched 20 mutts...aaaaand theeen, a hen hatched out 2 geese, maybe a 3rd by the end of tomorrow...and then, this a.m. at 7 sharp, the post office called to inform me that my 15 ducks and 25 feather legged straight run bantams had arrived...I did not have any bantams and felt deprived and there was the issue with many drakes and one duck...so I had to order more duck girls for all of those drakes...eat one you say? NEVAH!!!!!! Is there a cure for the addiction? I need help...I still have my eye on a few tyes I do not have and want...

There is always a way to rationalize and find the loopholes, always...btw, my order from Ideal was terrific...lost one duckling...very flat...the others must have stood on her poor self all the way here...the chicks were screaming their heads off wanting out of that shipping box...when the woman called me I could hear them in the background and when I p;ulled into the parking lot the head honcho was carrying the box out the door to me...the noise must have been getting on their nerves...how could anyone not love to hear baby chicks and baby ducks chirping away?

... I can already feel the effects of chick-a-holism setting in...after just a day of having them!!!

We really enjoy our quail....I didn't even mention our quail...lol. Ours are laying like crazy and I have somemore coming from a BYC member...they should be here tomorrow. They are easy to hatch out, and just pop out like popcorn...lol.

Pam

I know this is a stupid "newbie" question, but where do you all put that many chicks once they get bigger? Do all of you have free-range flocks or what? I had a hard enough time getting DH to build a 4' x 4' coop for the 3 or 4 I'm keeping. How on earth did you get yours to build a chicken mansion (which I assume you'd need for THAT many birds)?!? Just curious...

That's what I have heard, many people love hatching out quail. I can't wait. We probably got our eggs from the same person.

Good luck with your hatches and your self control. I'll be seeking treatment for mine, in my backyard with all my chickens and with my nose pressed up against my incubators. LOL
