i have asked for grass!

I think your sandbox idea is a good one. You could even take up the patio part you were going to put grass in and instead of, grass put in sand. You could even make it a raised a little to keep the sand from spreading out. That would be very good on their feet... much better than the hard patio.

nah im not aloud to take up the patio, im just gonna put them in the pool without water so its sort of like a playpen, but as its got a plastic bottom do i even need to put sand in? would i be ok just putting a clump of straw for them to sit on?

What's good about all this is that it is teaching you responsibility and animal husbandry. . You are experiencing waste management problems now, and what you are learning will be with you the rest of your life

In farming, manure (duck poop) is considered an asset due to the concentration minerals and nutrients. It is often spread out on a field and later plowed under to help replenish the next crop. Other people will compost the manure, to add to their garden later.

If you cover your run with topsoil or straw, you can recover this along the ducks excrement by composting and using it later to provide (sell??) to the neighborhood for their flower and vegetable gardens. This way you turn a waste product into a marketable asset.

Excellent idea!

We are going to do this too. Our ducks won't have access to the grassy area all the time so we built 4 planters, that way we can rotate them and have fresh greens for them all them time. We will put vinyl chicken 'wire' over it so the ducks won't make a mess of them.
