I Have Babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, you won't believe this, but I have only ever hatched eggs using a 10-gallon aquarium with a reflector light on the screen top! I put a towel over the end opposite from the lamp to keep heat in, and a small dish with water for humidity! It works for me, but I would love to have an incubator and turner.

Thanks everyone - I'm as proud as punch! The one that was pipping hatched an hour ago and is already up bouncing around and full of life. It is an Isa Brown cross (either Wyandotte or SS Hamburg Roo) and it already has the most adorable face! Better get a pick of him too!
The other three are giving him a bit of a hard time and he is very vocal about it so i am about to move then first lot into the brooder, no other eggs have pipped and they are in the ensuite ready to raise the humidity with the shower.
I hope I am not cursing myself by refering to them all as 'he' and 'him'!

Cute pictures. Bless their hearts, they look soooo exhausted after just coming out of the egg. Connie

Alright!! his gives me some much needed encouragement. I am having to tweak the thermostat every once in a while to keep the temp close to right. I used a thermostat that I had laying around and it is real sensitive. I only have a cheapo thermometer so lord knows what the temp really is. I wish I would have built and tested the bator before the eggs were shipped.

But the price of the eggs was low and I am prone to do things in a less than logical manner sometimes.
Keep those pics coming!!

I had to move the new baby to the brooder as well just before, it was carrying on like a 3 day old chick! So now I have 4 little ones running amuck in the brooder. They are so addictive to watch! I love watching them doze off and then when another chick touches them they bounce up and start running in any direction - so funny!
Hatched this morning (8hrs old):

txhomegrown - my bator doesn't even have a thermostat (it will be getting one next time i want to use it though) and my temperature was pretty all over the place although never below 95 or above 105. I'm surprised at how tough these little ones are, i wonder if different breeds eggs are more sensitive to such fluctuations? Cos it didn't seem to affect this lot one bit, they are mutts but they are super tough!
babalubird - they were exhausted and still have lots of little naps, but in between naps now they are crazy! Pecking at the walls, pecking at each others toes, eating, drinking, running, scratching themselves, falling over etc. Such funny little personalities - Hilarious
