We ended up spreading the word around the neighborhood and to friends in family. We would be willing to give away eggs when the time came if anyone wanted to donate unused lumber, nails, doors, extra feeders ect. We ended up getting a few waterers and feeders, some plywood, and my uncle has a piece of metal roof I think were getting.
I felt like i wasn't 'free loading' because a lot of people have just a few pieces of lumber or supplies that wouldnt amount to much on their own, but together could build a decent coop.
You'd be surprised how many people are willing to donate - especially if they get a few cartons of fresh eggs in return later down the road.
