Woo-Hoo! I candled eggs last night. I have guinea, turkey, and Dorking eggs going. Only the Dorking eggs were shipped. Only 5 out of 15 look good there, the rest are clears, but those 5 look really strong, all but 1 of a dozen guinea eggs looks good, and 5 out of the 6 turkey eggs has strong active, bouncy little embryos! I thought they'd just maybe move a little, but these things are wiggling all around like little tadpoles!

I've been candling eggs for over 10 years, and this is the first time I've seen them move! Maybe my light was never bright enough before, or maybe they were always asleep when I candled. (in the middle of the night, these birds are, after all, diurnal critters!) Anyway, I'm absolutely pumped about this, tonight I'm gonna show my DH the bouncy babies, I hope they perform for him, too.

It never gets old, at least it hasn't here. I love watching them move, it's one of the few minor miracles of nature you can actually see happening.

I saw movement for the first time just the other night (it's my first hatch attempt). I sooo wanted to go wake up the family so they could see, too, but I didn't.

The hardest part now is not taking them out of the bator every five minutes to see if they're still moving.

Good luck with your hatch!

Ooooo Yes, I am having trouble keeping my hands off them because I love so much to see them move.

I showed my DH tonight, he was suitably impressed! I made a mistake though, two of the turkey eggs with bouncy emryos are actually larger chicken eggs. So I have 3 live turkey embryos at this point, in the house, anyway. Miss Broody hen has an additional 6 under her. One of those is for sure doing well, has movement like these three. The other 5, I couldn't see into well enough to tell. It wasn't completely dark in the coop yet, and my batteries were no longer as fresh. There were two on the verge of exploding, got those outta there!, and one clear. So I'll check them again in a few days, and with fresh batteries.
