I am was wondering which is better to bred together. Frizzled roo to silkie hens? OR Silkie Roo to Frizzled hens? I have 2 pens right now set up like this 1 roo to 3 hens (silkie roo), 1 roo to 3 hens(frizzle) I just got my 1st little peeps from each pen. The one out a cool looking color The other looks just like my usual shade of frizzle chicks but lighter if that makes any since. I will try to post their pics later so ya'll can see how different they look.

Genetically it makes no difference. From a practical standpoint, a frizzled cock can create more frizzled babies than can a frizzled hen (assuming that he has access to multiple hens, lol). He can fertilize multiple hens each day. She can only lay one egg per day.

Depending on how the genes segregate out, you can end up with cochin-y looking sizzles--I have a number. Unfortunately, most have either the wrong number of toes or the wrong colour of skin. Depending on what they are bred to you can work back to the cochin standard or forward to the sizzle (working) standard.

Definitions:
Frizzle: ANY bird carrying the frizzle gene, breed does not matter (unless you are in Europe where frizzle is a breed)

Sizzle: a bird with all silkie traits except for feathering which is NOT silkie and IS frizzled.

Smooth sizzle: a bird with all silkie traits except for feathering, which is normal feathering--not silkie, not frizzled.

Cochin: a breed in which frizzles are common, and is the breed most commonly used to breed the frizzle trait into silkies to create sizzles.

Silkie: does anyone NOT know?

Curley: aka frazzle, a bird with two copies of the frizzle gene; feathers tend to be drittle and easily broken.

Frizzled silkie: a bird with both silkied and frizzled feathers.

did I leave out anything?
