I have gone chicken crazy!

I have (a couple

) of Hovabators w/ auto turners. Our Humidity in Missouri is always high anyway. I would say a problem we have is it going too high... Even though there is an auto turner, I still open periodically to give the eggs a whiff.. I figure hens get off every now and again, it can't hurt.
My main problem is in lockdown....very very very hard for me to stay out of it... once a couple of chickies hatch out, i want to take them out, but in reality, I think with them banging the eggs around and chirping, stimulates the other chicks to hatch.

yes opening once in while is good, gives eggs fresh air lol, just doing it 3 or 5 times a day works against ya lol.

I have both. and with the thermometer on the hygrometer, i have 4 thermometers in the bator! hahahhaha!

I was thinking of putting 2 in there and one on outside in the room so that way i can see the difference in humidity in the room and the bator does this make sense?

the ones you can jus stick wire in are great, take up no room basically

Ok so since i am hatching french black maran's and pure amerucana's from what i understand the dry hatch method seems to have better success in hatching with these breeds would you all say that is accurate?

Got my eggs from here they are local to me so i am picking them up Sunday.

sorry cant help you there,, no matter what breed i had in bator, usually way more then 1, ive never tried the dry method. i figured all hens make humidity when laying in one place. it gets 99 degrees under her, shes gotta sweat lol

Yes i understand what you are saying. it makes sense. i don't do that but if you feel comfortable doing it then go ahead. personally i think its a little excessive.

Idk about breeds having better hatch rates doing dry method. i think its a general consensus that dry is better, from my understanding. a lot of people claim to have better hatch rates with whatever breed doing it the "dry" way

I am not doing anything special with mine, the humidity is mid 30's-40's with out adding any water... I will add some during lockdown, of course. I have some IV tubing that drains into the reservoirs and I can add water that way ( the benefits of being a nurse ) will see how it goes, mine go into lockdown 4/3. I hadn't heard different breeds require different humidity, interesting.

You know it's bad when you dream about walking by the incubator, in the dream, I had chicks hatching out at fourteen days, as well as a lizard (must watch too many geico commercials) weird, so I have to get up at 2:30 in the morning and look ... They are all nice and snug
