I have had it !!!

I live in Texas and we can shoot any animal that is after our livestock. I live out in a rural area and there are no leash laws, no dog pound. All my dogs are on runs, they protect the birds and other animals. But I have my dogs penned because I dont want them ran over.
On a side note, I have 1 Pit in the house, 3 Pit or Pit crosses out side and they are very protective over there feathered friends. All my geese and ducks sleep with Buttermilk (white Pit) every night.

hey if the neighbor shoots your animals and any dog that enters his property then I say you should do the same. I would give the dog a second chance (well you already gave it one by not shooting it the first time) and let the neighbor know. This way if they really care they will keep it chained up. if not, well that stinks but you need to protect your homestead.

Unload the shotgun and put it away. Load up a good rifle instead. Make sure that effin thing is DEAD, not injured. Not to mention that depending on your shotgun's spread, you may end up with a destroyed pen or dead turkeys from some of the shot. If the dog goes back to their place, you could be screwed. You'd have to prove that you shot it while on your property, not to mention that there may be backlash from the neighbors. Doesn't matter how right you are, if they come over and kill your turkeys, your turkeys are still dead... PLUS, they may be able to get you with animal cruelty if the dog is left to limp home. P.S. Next time, don't have such a big heart. Shoot first, burry, and don't even bother asking questions.

Believe me a dog that catches a 3 1/2 inch load of Heavy 13 turkey shot is not limping yelping or even kicking. It is dead when it hits the ground. Been there and done it.

If you are using a shotgun might I recommend Heavy Shot Dead Coyote. It is a load designed to kill coyotes out to 65-70 yds. Stone dead or disabled enough to stop them in their tracks. Its what I use and it works. All the unfortunate chicken killers didn't make it.....anywhere. SSS!

I really worry about what you say on the internet. It could come back to haunt you. I know some of my post (a full year of post) where taken to court once. Your not as anonymous as you might think if someone has a gruge. Not that hard to google shooting dogs or other key words and find your post. They might not even be looking for you post but looking up the law for example.

Well said. Some may view it as extreme to shoot the dog but, its exactly as you described it. "I put lots of work into my operation and I will not sit back and allow careless dog owners to let their dogs ruin it". Why should you be punished for someone elses ignorance?

did you even talk to them about it? is there something else going on with your neighbor aside from this dog? i uderstand your need to protect your girls/investment i do but if you have not even spoken with the owner i think you are in the wrong. if you have spoken to them and the dog comes back then i think you are acting in a responsible manner. it has been a least a day or so since it happened are you waiting for it to come back? that is plenty of time to tell the neighbor and give them a chace to protect your aimals and theirs.... if you have not done this i cant help but wonder what else is really going on? that just seems a little strange.. how impersonal have we become that we would shoot someones pet without telling the owner that the animal is doing worng? maybe they do not ven know and can stop it before you have to do that...??? im confused

In his post he said the owner shot 3 of his turkeys, and he already called animal control on it. I say shoot the stupid mutt if it bothers his pets or him again.
