I have mites.... Help!!!

Good to know! I've had terrific results so far with the spray I got from TSC, but I have some stuff similar to yours.

Also Kiki, that makes WAY more sense! XD
My phone has a mind of its own sometimes and I'm horrible at proof reading before I hit the post reply button.

I used pyrethrin for a severe infestation (less nerve toxic than the synthetic permethrin from what I’ve learned), a product called Scalex, made for birds. It worked well. Since then, I have put elemental sulfur in their dust bath and hung a cloth baggie filled with elemental sulfur right in the pop door opening, so the birds dust themselves every time they go in or out (the bag just releases a tiny bit of powder, no dust cloud! but sulfur spreads well over their body). I found this causing the least stress for keeping them mite free. (My birds always wake up when I go in the coop after dark and it is still hard to spray everyone properly - plus the roo seems wide awake at any disturbance and gets ready to flog me.... ).

Okay--here's an update! My chickens seem mostly mite-free, the exception being the crested breeds. I'll probably have to pull them aside somehow and massage the powder into their crests specifically. I sprayed them with the spray first, then a week later with powder. The powder was significantly less stressful lemme tell ya.

I'll probably get the sulfur for the future and put it in their dust bath because wow they're terrified of powder poofing in the air. And I gotta say, the inhalation risk isn't really something I'm nuts about.

If only they were all as calm as my cochins, this would be easy lol.

Hi,
I’ve been wondering the same thing about mites. I don’t see any, but I like to be preventative. Can I spray right on the pine chips, or do I need to take it all out and spray, then put fresh back in?
