I have never had Black Sex Links so..... Updated with pics pg. 2

I have one Black star and she is the most gentle, and friendly in the flock. She comes up to me and wants to be held. She loves it when I give her yogurt or some other treat. She is huge compared to the other chicks... perhaps because she gets more attentionl. Also my Red star is HUGE. It makes me wonder if they have a little Jersey Giant in them. Mine is all black with just a touch of red on her breast.

all pullets there. That's the beauty of sex-links,the male and female feather out differently. In the black sex-link, all day old chicks will be black, but the males will have a white spot on their head. Pick out all solid black chicks if you want all pullets. Keep in mind that they are a mixed breed and will not breed true. You cannot breed a male and a female and get black sex-link offspring. They are great chickens, though.

I got these at the feed store as extras when they were about 1 week and a half old.

I had 5, have 3 left. I just love my Black sexies. They are egg laying machines! They only stopped laying for about 2 weeks last winter just after they were attacked by the neighbors dog. I get 4-5 eggs a day from the 3 plus 2 RIR's. What I have seen in the last year is they are very calm and gentle. They love treats and tolerate just about anything (my dog and cats) They follow me around the yard like puppies.

Oh yeah, those are all pullets. Wait until you see how big their combs can get! This is Broom Hilda at about 13 months old!

Very pretty girls! I have one Black Start and she looks about the same age as your gals, but not nearly as much brownish gold on the chest.
