I have no idea what I am doing

Can anyone help me with my duck egg!?!?. I had to assist in external pipping as it was dangerously close to 24 hrs of internal pip. It's now been 14 hrs since I did it. What should I do
The only advice I can give you is to wait just like I did. I know that feeling but please believe me if I had gone with my gut I wouldn't have a beautiful new addition to my family. Take the advice to get here, have a drink or two and sit and wait. Your duck will let you know when it's time to help

Don't cover the egg with wet paper towel...That actually draws out the moisture from the egg....The pin hole is fine...Just do not touch that egg before its ready...It will pip when its ready and then it could be another 24 hours before it zips out..You can not rush it....
Yes I learned a valuable lesson 2 months ago. I had 1 egg left in my incubator a chicken egg. When I heard it banging around for 12 hrs I decided to intervine. WORST MISTAKE EVER! Poor thing still had yoke attached to it. It suffered for 3 days before it died. Broke my children's and my hearts. Lesson: don't help unless truly needed.

My duck internally pipped on a Sunday morning I had to assist at different stages but she wasn't out of the shell until Wednesday afternoon. When I heard her chirping from inside I lost my mind and my first thought was omg we have to get her out. I would have killed her for sure if I didn't listen to theses amazing people here

sorry you had a bad experience :hugs but it really is all about timing. i hope you and your kids tried again or will in the future!

I had a silkie egg that had pipped in the middle of the egg instead of the air sac, the last to pip also, and was taking longer to hatch than it should due to being stopped from zipping by the veins. It had made a large shelless hole and a semi-large hole in the membrane where it had pipped. Luckily all the assisting I needed to do was use the egg candler to see where the air sac was and the chick seemed to know right away and moved it's head up. Few minutes later it was sending shell shards flying across the incubator with the force it was zipping once it had pipped at the airsac, and then it tumbled out of it's egg and into another eggshell behind it peeping it's little head off!

I wonder if it would have brute-forced it's way out of the middle of the egg if I didn't show it the proper way to hatch? :lau

Oh yes we have a couple times since. It's a learning experience for us. We definitely all learned to leave them too it on their own. Also that if they don't make it there usually is a good reason such as health issues that they were better off to not hatch. Example : one didn't hatch all the way by the 3rd day no movement in the Shell so I opened it up poor chick had 4 legs and a deformed face. I figured that was nature's way of not letting it suffer. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't of been able to eat or stand.

This is first time hatching duck without an incubator and our second time hatching ducks at all! Its much more frustrating then watching chickens hatch :barnie

Egg #7 is making good progress though, it made a couple more cracks* into the shell over the night so i'm praying it'll be out by tomorrow! :fl
Meanwhile eggs number #3 and #8 (The twins) are starting to peep! i felt my heart almost drop when i heard a peep from inside egg #8 its good to know at least one guy is in there! Now all i have to do is wait.... and wait... and.. wait.
