I have PiPS!!! UPDATE - New pics

There is no condensataion on the bator window - so maybe I will leave well enough alone until the others start hatching.

The new peep seems to "nap" alot - is this normal? This is the first time I have ever done this, so I don't have any idea what is normal behavior.

I hope at least one more hatches!! Three more are pipped, but no action yet.

Thanks,

Do you have a hygro in there? If not, when moisture begins to build, I'd pull a plug. Many lose hatches to lack of oxygen, but if they're hatching, they may have enough right now, but not when there are a bunch running around. Congrats on the baby!

I do not have a hygro - this was a total spur of the moment "test hatch" using eggs from my chickens. I really did not expect any of them to hatch!! Here is a pic I just took - he seems very interested in movement and light. I think the flash freaked him out!

I have a "test" hatch in the bator myself right now. Now Cyn, what exactly do you mean by pull the plug? I have one vent hole with a cap in the top of my bator. do you mean that after a hatch I should keep it open? I open it when I think the humidity is raising now and I am on day 14??

It's very normal for him to stop and rest alot...

Might be a good idea to pull a plug like Speck suggests when another one starts to hatch out...they will need air...my bator has air holes but not plugs so thats why I couldn't answer your ?..on those....

Carrie, Tuff is correct. The Hova has two vent holes with red plugs on the top of the bator. When they get right at hatch time, the need for oxygen is increased so I remove at least one of those. The humidity usually stays up okay and if it starts to go down before they hatch, I may put the plug halfway over the hole, but I dont cover it up. When they begin hatching, they add lots of moisure of their own and the humidity can get too high where they can't dry off, so then, both plugs should be out.

speckled is right!
I have a hova 1602n and when it is the last 3 days I pull both plugs just so the eggs can even get air for the hatching process.
Good luck and very cute baby!

Okay - I pulled the vent plug - I guess they will need the oxygen, and I don't want to deprive them. Two of the oher eggs are rocking around now - so hopefully soon they will hatch too.

Woke up this morning to SIX chicks - seem to be healthy, active, and VERY loud - LOL!

Two eggs left - we'll see what happens today. I will post pics when I get home from work this evening.

Thanks everyone!!
