I have some concerns about supporting hatcheries...

can you sell rabbits on there? I consider them livestock, but others might not.....

they do in houston, austin, dallas, etc. i haven't seen them getting flagged.

To sell livestock (including chickens) on craigslist, post in the farm & garden section. This would also be a source for those looking for straight-run chicks.

The reason I ordered from a hatchery is because i wanted chicks, and i wanted a certain breed. I did not want to spend weeks looking and asking where to get them locally. Even if I did find chicks locally, would they have the breeds that I wanted? Would they have mites? carry a disease?

the way i make myself feel better about the treatment of extra males is request some extra males for extra warmth. i keep all the roos i can get, i love the boys. they're my favorites. it may not stop the problem but at least it saves a few boys. Mc Murray Hatchery, the one that was on Dirty Jobs is the place that offers the extra males. I won't be ordering from them after the next order comes in because one: Randall Burkey has cheaper everything. two: i can't stomach the treatment of the birds. it hurts me to see the way they are treated and it cringe when i think of anyone hurting a poor roo... btw, i always buy straight run. I love roos.
