I have some questions about Marek's disease and Laryngotracheitis and their vaccines.

I have found no evidence to support claim, while hypericum may help with symptoms(reduces anxiety, pain reliever, helps mild depression)i have found nothing to convince me it cures Marek's. It has been used to help cats with FIV(feline immunodeficiency virus)which is also part of the herpes virus, but it helps not cures. There are side effects, some are fatigue(long term use),increased blood pressure, stomach upset, increased sensitivity to sunlight- all confirmed in humans. Increased sensitivity to sunlight has been confirmed in animals, some have become ill, reports of some deaths. Be cautious on long term use of hypericum as none or little has been done its effects on birds. Should also not be used together with other medications.

My hen with Marek's has done much improvement. She can stand and even walk on her haunches. On the St. John's Wort thread, someone put up a post telling how their chicken caught Marek's
and after a few days of giving it hypericum, she was able to walk.

Yes,as i had stated,i may help, but it is NOT a cure for Marek's. The point of my post was to make sure people realize their birds are not cured and that caution still needs to taken with other chickens and disclosing the fact that birds are carriers and in fact still have Marek's. Just b/c some symptoms are alleviated, does not mean they are cured.

Thanks for posting!

I'm still trying to do a bit or research of my own, but if this vaccine will protect against Marek's disease and provide protection from ILT without causing birds to become carriers, than it seems like the best option.

Do you know whether or not older birds can be vaccinated with this vaccine as well? or must it be given at one day of age?
I think that if it isn't given in the egg then it can't be given until 5wks of age or older.

Now, my chicken is WALKING on her toes. It does cure marek's. She probably isn't that contagious anymore.

DO NOT be fooled into thinking your chicken is cured,b/c she is still a carrier and can infect other chickens and is still contagious. Just b/c symptoms are alleviated, does not mean she is cured. I am trying to make you understand that your chicken is not "cured" from having Marek's disease. If you are a diabetic and take insulin you are not cured, but the insulin helps with symptoms and improves your life, but you are still a diabetic.

If you wish to BLOCK me ChicknsRock as per your private message,go ahead,BUT STOP telling people it is a CURE,there has been no proof of this. All you are doing is getting people who are looking desperately for a cure, false hope,it may alleviate some symptoms, but will not cure them. Yes, i will keep warning that chickens are still carriers, and to be cautious around other birds. Sorry if you don't like it. Someone else will tell you the same thing,so block me!

There is no cure for Marek's . Once they are exposed, they will always be carriers and expose other birds to having Marek's as well, whether symptomatic or not. I have yet to see anyone offer valid medical proof that SJW does anything .

We'll see when I put Oscarita back with the flock. I'll prove all ya'll wrong!!!!
