So when i get my own place which i hope is in like a year or so i want to pic a breed and start breeding and showing them. I notice there are alot of you who have mutliple breed and hatch out alot of chicks too. What do you do with all the extra chicks you dont keep and all the eggs you dont sell or use?

Extra chicks go on Craigslist, and I only hatch what I'm sure I can sell or want to keep for myself. I sell a lot of hatching eggs, if the girls are laying well and I don't want to hatch right then, I run auctions for eggs. [IMG] I hatch very heavily in the first few months of the year, because I know I can sell a lot of chicks at that time, but I also know from past experience, once the feed stores have had chicks for a few weeks, I can't seem to give them away, so I have to stop hatching by mid March unless I want to get stuck with a ton of extra chicks.
Also, on the extra eggs, if the girls aren't laying well enough to run auctions, I sell the eggs at work for eating. [IMG]

I keep most of them. Every once in a while I check the market and if it seems like a bunch of people are looking for chickens, then I sell of some hens here and there. The boys go to freezer camp unless they are really gentle. If I have too many eggs I eat them myself or give them away to people in need. This way it is not a loss if you have too many.
