I have to talk POLISH!

Quote:
I think they are very content in a confined area. I have always let my chickens free range and really couldn't imagine have chickens caged up, even in a large pen....until I got the Polish. I knew I would need to keep them separate because I'm breeding but once i realized that they are actually content to be in a confined space I sure felt better about it. I think that due to their limited vision that they do well in a more familiar area. I have 4 girls and they rarely miss a day! My first Polish that I had in my free range group was about 3 years old and she gave me about 3 eggs a week but she never hung with everyone. Pretty much stayed near the coop or in the barn, so I think you may be right about them feeling better in a designated space.
I'd love for her to have family, but she needs to do her part! I have her poof trimmed so she can see and she seems to be happy with the flock and she goes outside with them and scratches around like a regular chicken. I hatched her myself and she grew up with other chicks that are now part of the flock. She has a "friend", my frizzled Sizzle, who she always roosts with at night. I guess I could try her in a confined area and see what happens. It feels SO MEAN but maybe she would like it. I guess it won't hurt to try it out.

No, I wouldn't put her by herself. If she's part of your flock then her not laying (that's what the question was right?) lol has nothing to with her being nervous in her environment so I'd wait and see if she's a late bloomer.

So my little white polish chick is almost 3 weeks old and has been getting some dark feathers on it. I'm already thinking it is mixed since I don't recall seeing any polish hens on the sellers property when we got the chick. The daddy looked like a buff laced. I'll have to get some new pictures to share. It is starting to get a crest as well.

ETA: After looking up all the polish colors I figured out the father of my polsih chick looked like a red laced white polish.

TOO Clever Of YOU !

I ave one WCB bantam polish hen in with two NN bantam hens, a black Am hen and a blue silkie rooster. The WCP is best layer, next are the NNs. I think that they are contented in a confined, constant environment. However they do get out to free range a few times a week and the WCB polish seems to prefer to stay in the pen. I am amazed at the size of her eggs in comparison to her size. What a Woman !

Do any of you breeders have any LF roosters for sale and would be willing to ship? I'm in need of a LF Buff Laced polish rooster and an additional hen or 2. PM me if anyone does thanks.

I have a Polish bantam pullet who laid her first egg about two months ago and hasn't laid since. At that time I noticed one of the roosters was mating her, but they have not shown any interest in her since. Her egg was white and pointy. Does that sound right? Do all Polish lay white eggs? I'm pretty sure I know each of my hen's eggs since they are Easter eggers. This pullet is my only Polish. I've checked everywhere to make sure she doesn't have a secret nesting spot and I've never caught her hanging out in any of the nesting boxes. All of my other hens and pullets are laying fine. What does this mean? She seems healthy and happy. It's driving me crazy

I have been there! Last year I had one pullet lay 10 eggs then stop for 9 months! Now she is a laying machine! Laying every day. And yes my polish lay white "pointy" eggs.
