With the blue/black/splash (BBS) gene, regardless of breed,
here is what you'll end up with based on who is bred to what

Wonderful information. I knew someone would share in better details and I'm printing out the color combo results since these are the colors I'm working with and I should be able to figure out who the parents are with this information.
I do want to share where I got my information that conflicts with your comment "Self-blue is not a uniform blue color. Self-blue has to do with the color of the offspring."
Here's what I found....
"What is a “self” color variety? (Example: Self Blue OEGB)
"This is a single uniform color throughout the plumage, as in Black and White varieties as well as Blue"
"All of these questions and answers can be found in the APA American Standard of Perfection and the ABA Bantam Standard."

I'm no expert on colors and I agree that self would refer to uniform coloring as well.
I was trying to explain the difference to Littlecritters as simply as possible since I know that she is new to this.
For example, self blue is a uniform color, almost lavender. But it also breeds true, as compared to non self blue whick can give blue, black or splash offspring.
Also, a black that comes from breeding 2 black would be more uniform black than a black that may come from a blue x blue breeding or a blue x black breeding.
At least I know this to be true with silkies. Last year I only had WC Black polish and all the offspring were true black, no leakage.
This year I have 1 blue female and I currious to see how her black offspring turn out.

Awe, OK, so if I understand, you're saying that you can't know for sure if an all black (for example) chicken is a true "self" black until you see what their offspring is? Absolutely, LOVE the color genetics! I bred horses and dogs with color in mind and found it so interesting! So I'm having fun with the chickens.

H Hello Everyone! I have two Polish bantam chicks that are about 4.5-5 weeks old. Although they are still very young, I am trying so hard to figure out their genders

can someone go check out my polish album? i took some pics today and was wondering if mine still looked like a girl (some of the crest feathers are wet from them getting into the water). there is still no comb and i think its at least 3-4 months old if i remember right.

im so happy to here that and thank you she is beautiful. i have 8 other chicks (not polish) and out of them only 3 are girls it looks like, im so sad but i'm hoping to hatch some chicks here soon. these 8 are about 2 months old now.
