I have to talk POLISH!

Well a female is going to have a nice round poof, with round edged feathers. A male will have spikey poof with long skinny narrow feathers. If you look at some of the pictures here, you can see the difference.

Well I have some polish and I pretty much know I have one pullet and one cockerel. The pullet which is the SL in the pictures has the poofy crest that clearly says pullet. The cockerel which is the GL has the rooster type crest and has started crowing and he also has huge wattles. They are around 13 weeks old. THe white/buffed colored one is the one i have no idea about. he/she looks to have a beard and starting to show red on the wattle area but not too much. Also the crest is slow in growing. what do you all think.

This morning one of my 8 week old bantam Polish started to crow and it sounds perfect for a newbie.

OK...so i have a 3 month old polish. How can i tell if it is a rooster or a hen? I never had one before and this one was picked out by my 2.5 year old daughter. She loves it to death but no rooster at my house...so i need to figure out if he is going to be changed out or not. I will post pics if need be but was hoping someone might be able to tell me.

by 3 months the roos usually have reddish combs and wattles and the feathers on their crests are more pointy and spikey. Females tend to have rounded smooth crests. Pics would help us tell you

i have a SL polish hen and she is 4 weeks and her crest is all black will it ever tern back and white

I'm hoping that folks will also share bio-control or bio-security tips used with showbirds, new adult birds and new chicks.I'd really like to know specific products used, quarantine times, bathing//dusting/dipping/spraying protocol etc? I've read that some folks put dirt from their property into their brooders, others put new birds on an area of their property that has never housed poultry for the quarantine time and some folks won't purchase new birds at all. They will only hatch eggs for new stock. I put in a call to the avian specialist at Cornell University and I'm hoping she can also share sone suggestions.
