I have to talk POLISH!

To any one experianced= is there any chance of getting good quality chicks from a feed store? Also, would one polish be ok by herself, or do I need to get two? (if i got another breed it would either be a cochin, or crested) Thank you!

Polish like other Polish. I would say you have a better chance of some decent bantam Polish chicks vs large fowl Polish from hatcheries. My first Polish I bought at my local feed store as friends for a lone chick I hatched. I was impressed with their quality. It probably depends on what hatchery the feed store is buying their chicks from too.

Yes, I would. Once the pin feathers start growing in the chicks pluck em right back out. Unfortunately, you will need to apply it every other days as it does not last long. There is something call pine tar that is supposed to last longer but I have never found it or used it.

Also, blue cot will stain the feathers for months. No pick stains too but eventually wears off.

I will pick some up tomorrow. How soon do I need to put it on them. I have two Polish who haven't grown their crest feathers. I have moved the two together into a fish tank with a screen lid. One has a scaby head from the picking. Tuck seems to be happier and my Red Polish chick was being chased by a Bantam so I knew what was coming. I looked at the no pick at the feed store when I got the Wound Kote it was $14 for a bottle and Amber colored. Is that the right stuff?000

Do I need to put it on the Silkies too?

i have a polish hen but no polish rooster what do u think a mottled houdan and a polish would look like i know this is for polish but i can't get a polish rooster and i just wanted to know your guys thoughts

I don't think it would look bad. You just might get a Polish chick with 5 toes.

I've had much better experience with hatching eggs. My oldest are 5 years old, and they were from ebay eggs. They still lay everyday on their laying cycle.
I would not have a lone Polish, it might end up being picked on alot. You might want to think about getting 3.

4-5 weeks is usually when I see the picking begin. If the top hat is sparce, I put a couple of dabs on. Once the chicks get a taste of that they will be deterred.

great tip!!! Does it stay on well? The no-pick ointment needs to be reapplied every couple of days.

Thanks for the info. That's the stuff I saw at the store. It will cost $6 to ship it so I will check around a couple of other places.
