I have found Polish to be very healthy. I usually have 40+ polish in my flock at any given time and have not had any health issues with any of them. I have read people have had problems getting chicks to survive but that has not been my experience. I could see how shipped Polish chicks could be stressed on arrival since they are typically smaller than other large fowl, and if you are getting bantams shipped with large fowl that could be a problem. Are polish healthy birds if kept in a good environment? I know some breeds are weaker than others. It doesn't get too cold where we live, so that's not a problem. So I need to know if they are pretty resistant to stuff, and if they get along with friendly breeds? Thanks!
The problem I see most common with polish is that their head dresses and tail feathers get plucked. If you are going to raise polish chicks it is a good idea to keep No-Pick on hand and use it at the first sign of balding. Once the chick starts getting bald, their head becomes an attractive nuisensce and you will need to keep applying no pick til the feathers grow back. A fully feathered adult head dress rarely gets plucked... it the pin feathers that seem to attract pluckers.
