Hi. I am new to the thread...quick question. I have one polish, a white crested blue. We live in the North Ga mountains with all the lovely red clay we are known for. How do I clean my polish's hat feathers?????? Ugg...so dirty it is awful. And it has been raining so it is not only brownish grey in front, but stiff with dirt! Do you guys trim the front? Do you use rubber bands on their heads? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Howdy Flowerbh. I have few Polish in my mix also. The soil here is also red and the older bird WCB is always fithy. But then all of my birds are busy taking duting dirt baths. Initially I did trim the front feathers so she could see better and many people who are not showing do trim. Those who show their birds naturally do not. But some use elastic hair ties to hold the feathers back and release them on occasion to let the feathers relax. My other three Polish are younger and do not seem to have a problem seeing but do keep to themselves as they are newer additions to the flock. Some people need to seperate their Polish because the other birds pick on their crests. So far that has not been a problem here. Maybe they have enough space during the day and they do roost in a seperate spot. Hope this helps some.
This is a long thread but in between there are lots of helpful hints and some wonderful pictures of project birds. In the middle of center valley, MyCute Chickens has top knotch show birds and she posts here. Have fun.........enjoy. Oh and my girl WCB is pretty noisy.

Its too early to tell yet. You will have more of an idea when the crest feathers come in

If either of those are suppose to be crele then it would be the bottom picture. I presonally don't think it's a crele, not a really good one wnyway. Looks like someones attempt at one maybe. JMHO.
