I have to talk POLISH!

How old are the Silkie chicks? I would take the pullets with the best lacing and breed them back to your Silver Laced roo.
My silkies are about 4 weeks now, maybe 5. I only have the 2 polish and don't plan to get anymore unless they happen to have chicks of their own.

I actually like the crosses with silkies and polish. But then I like cross breeds anyway.

Okay thanks guys! I was hoping I would get a silver laced chick but my hen is beautiful also!! How are polish hens with going broody and raising chicks??

My hen was quarantined with 2 silkie babies before I introduced them to the flock. They would run under her and she would let them. When I introduced them she was super protective of them. She acted like they were hers and even now if they squeak for her she runs after any hen next to them-LOL it is funny. I thought it was great that she just took over as mommy to them. That being said-I plan on getting 5 more babies tomorrow-will she do the same for them?
Polish are not known for being broody. But there are exceptions to every rule. Sounds as if you do have a potential broody or at least a good mom. But it is hard to say that she will adopt new chicks so soon but who knows about that ? It is hard to predict behavior unless it seen again and again ?

I am going to try and see if she will adapt them.

Our 6mo polish cockerel has finally decided to crow and good grief he is the loudest of all the roosters we have!

Oh no! My 12 week roo started at 7 weeks. He still sounds lame. Of course now another one has started, so I get a morning duet that sounds like squeaky doors. It's hilarious. Our closest neighbor was over this weekend, he said he's fine with hearing a rooster, so all is well.

I feel your pain. Mine crows throughout the day & anytime he hears something in the backyard. We joke about him being our guard chicken....we named him Spot...lol.

Its so cute! Since I got another rooster my polish, Spot, has guarded his lady, Calico against Buddy. He can have all the others & Spot can care less, but come after his Calico & they start scraping! I love it because they are the 2 I want breeding. Buddy has his own gal! They are Russian orloffs so don't think a polish/orloff cross would be good!

Well now I have five roosters. One Sumatra, one BT barred rock, two silver penciled rocks, and the loudest of them all-BT polish. They each have at least one hen and not sure which ones we might show and/or breed so they all have to stay at least for now. Our closest neighbor is about 600' away but he isn't thrilled about them. We live in RR Zoning so he can't do anything but I still hate to upset anyone. Wish I could muffle the little guys!
