I have to talk POLISH!

Hello everyone! This is my first post on BYC, so I'll introduce a few of my little buggers (these are from a while ago) The golden is Theodora, the other (what do I call this color??) is Carla.
The second is indeed a Red. I had a beautiful red cockerel, but he had to find a new home. They only look prettier as they mature.

At what age are you able to sex a Polish?
I got this little one by accident while picking up a few other chicks. It was so cute I couldn't turn it away!

Folks I need some help. I posted this in the Emergencies/Diseases forum, but since you're Polish folk, maybe you can help me. Copying and pasting...

I feel terrible and I need my chicken license revoked. My poor polish rooster has become severely infested with mites, to the point that his eyes, and probably ears, are caked up with crud. I've scanned the forums looking for tips, and here is what I've done for him so far:

Dusted him with Sevin dust, which apparently didn't do the trick since they were still crawling all over him, and he went from one caked eye to two. Today I bathed him with flea and tick shampoo, cleaned off his eyes and tried to remove as much of the crud from his crest as I could. He's in the pet carrier with a warm fan blowing on him now to dry him off. Then he'll go into my brooder box, which has been thorough cleaned, sprayed and dusted with Sevin, and I think I'll dust him again, too.

Assuming I can kill off the mites, how do I get all of the crud off of him? And specifically, how can I get it off of his face? I read that this can cause permanent damage to him, but nothing specific about what that damage is.

Any help is appreciated. Please be gentle, I feel absolutely awful!
Thank you!

What are his eyes caked with? Yellowish dried discharge? I use this stuff called terramycin from tractor supply for pet eye infections it clears them up pretty quickly. I haven't ever had any problems using it on my chickens. It looks like this http://www.jefferspet.com/terramycin-eye-ointment/camid/PET/cp/N2-J1/

Does he have any other signs and symptoms? There are other chicken diseases that can also affect the eye.

lmao! That sweetie has the worst case of bed "head" I have ever seen... I'm guessing it's a hen, based on the shape of the crest, but it's hard to tell with the frizzled feathers. If "she" starts crowing when she's a few months old, you'll know for sure! lol

His crest is full of the mite crud, the thick cakey yuck, and that seems to be what's covering his eyes and face as well. I've tried to find Terramycin, to no avail. No one seems to have it until the company makes more in late January. Weird. He acts like bugs are crawling in his crest, like he's itchy. Other than that, his normal goofy behavior that I've always assumed was Polish behavior.

hot water to loosen it, pick it off with q-tips, then a permethrin dip (don't let him get any in the throat or nostrils, rinse face quick and thoroughly. give him some antibiotics too. I got some like that once and it was so bad they got infections from it which is why I recommend the antibiotics.

miohippus I missed your beautiful pictures. How did you get they to stay put, bubble gum their feet in place.
